I miss you AJ! I think about you each and every day as I continue to make progress as officer in AS Public Safety Commission, helping students have access to productive knowledge of dangers here in IV. You are gone, but certainly not forgotten. You have been a true inspiration for me, and I could never thank you enough :)

It's been 8 months since our beloved Alec (AJ) was lost to us forever. I'm not even sure anyone will even see this message I'm writing. I just felt compelled to acknowledge all the beautiful, heartfelt words written by those who knew Alec, but especially those that didn't and wrote giving us support and prayers. We don't feel courageous but we thank you for all your kind words. I wanted to share my experience regarding the information I requested to be in his obituary. When telling the person on the phone what I wanted to say regarding his cause of death, the person taking the information, tried to discourage me adding those details. She said things like that were "usually" done by writing a "letter to the editor". I asked her if she was telling me I couldn't do it? She said I could if I really wanted to. I did! We felt it was important and it was hard enough writing my son's obituary, I certainly wasn't sure I'd have the emotional fortitude at that time to then write to the editor. It's important for people to know how a healthy, happy, beautiful young man lost his life. We understand a lot of people want to keep these things private. But we felt, and still feel compelled, to do whatever we can so that no other families have to endure this kind of agony and loss. I want to encourage people to support families that are just trying to get, and keep, the word out there. This can happen, and does, all too often. Again, as Alec's mom, I want to thank you all from the bottom of my heart for all of your kind words and heartfelt support.

No one can conceive of the pain you must be enduring. Your courage exhibited by being transparent about the cause of your son's death can save thousands of young people from possible addiction or death. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

I didn't know AJ, but my heart breaks for his loss and all of his friends and family loss, such a sad loss of a young man
