We were deeply saddened to learn of Kati's sudden passing, and she will be dearly missed. Her kindness, gentleness, and thoughtfulness were always there, even during her own life struggles. She provided so much comfort to me when I lost my dog the year before. I am so glad she had Tara after this painful year of mourning for Ellie. How fitting that she was with Tara when she died.
We had just talked about getting together with our puppies a few days before she died. My husband and I happened to be driving through the Shasta area and Kati kept asking, "Where are you now?" because she thought it was one of the most beautiful places she'd been. She talked about camping there.
Tyra was my husband's nickname for Kati, and it always made her giggle. A bunch of us were staying in a house at Stinson Beach rented by our friend, Kathy. There was an emergency in the middle of the night that caused us all to get up, and Kati came running out of her room in rather skimpy attire (it was a hot night). Embarrassed, she quickly went back for a robe. Trying to ease her embarrassment, Jim said, "Don't worry, you looked like a model--like Tyra Banks (the only model name that came to mind). From then, when he heard me talking to Kati, he'd say, "tell Tyra I said hello!"
It has been so sad and painful to lose such a dear friend so suddenly. My heart goes out to all of you for the loss of such a beautiful spirit. We were all lucky to have had her in our lives, albeit for too short a time.
