To the Skowron family-i just learned of Moose's passing today. He was my Godfather, something I was always proud to tell people. I last talked to him when my Mom and Dad, Stan and Norma Standinger, passed away last year. The last he spoke to them both on the phone was at their 65th wedding anniversary in 2008. I am saddened by his passing but I have many fond memories of him. I have pictures as a little girl wearing dresses he bought me. A friend from Austin MN told me he remembers sitting in Harry Smith's shoe store in Austin, talking with Moose, Harry, and my Dad. I will inform my family back in Austin that Moose has passed as he was a special part of our family. Our condo lenses to you all, and all of Moose's buddies. He certainly was a legend, and an all around great guy, as is evident by the following here. God bless, Lori (Standinger) Bartee, Chesapeake, VA. Flygirlnc2000@yahoo.com

I 1st met Moose when I was 5 years old in about 1951. He came to Austin, Mn to work for Hormel meat packing and play baseball for the Austin Packers with older stars like Joe Raso. Working for my dad (Bob Kasak) at Hormel meant he followed dad to our house every night after work – he loved mother Irene's Bohemian cooking (and insisted on doing the dishes after eating). Probably ate 6 meals a week with us for 6 or 7 years every Fall & Winter, for back then, it was necessary for pro-players to have a winter job ‘cause they weren't compensated like today's players. So after each baseball season Bill found his way back to Austin & Hormel. He gave me my 1st baseball glove, and taught me a love for the game. He taught that young lad something even more special, how to be a gentleman. For that's what Bill was before he was a ball player. Always the greatest guy from which a young impressionable kid could learn. Thanks Bill for that memorable decade of the 1950s, the baseball glove and thanks for the 1956 Yankee team autograph ball.

My wife, daughter and I met Moose on several occasions at SoxFest and other season ticketholder functions. He was always kind and generous with his time. A wonderful man and a Chicago Legend. He will be missed.
