Not sure what to say?

I just saw the notice about Todd's death in Northwestern Magazine. I am so sorry for your loss. Although I hadn't seen you two in several years, Todd's name often came up in conversation when recounting stories about our travels and time at Camp Winaukee in New Hampshire between freshman and sophomore year in college. I will always have fond memories of Todd and our time spent together when we were young. He was a great guy. My deepest condolences to you and your family.

Janet, I am on the NU Class of 1988 Reunion Committee and was doing some follow up work on Reunion attendees when I ran across this obituary for Todd. We were out of the country when Todd passed away, and I did not know of it until now. I am very sorry sorry for your loss. Although I had not been in contact with Todd since our days at the Sigma Chi house, I can't help but note the parallels in our lives since then and that we have been living not very far apart (you in Marshfield and Amy and I in Madison) for several years. You and your children have our deepest sympathy, and our thoughts and prayers are with you.

What a wonderful physician to learn from. I loved working in the PICU with him.

Janet and the kids--I never heard him brag about specifics but it was always so clear to me how proud he was of his family. My thoughts are with you all.

Janet, at this very moment as you are surrounded by family and friends eulogizng Todd, I am there in thought and prayer. Such a talented, friendly gentleman, not surprising the caring 'friend down the hall' became a gifted physician and loving family man. You recognized and encouraged these qualities in him, making him whole and better, and he you. Your loss is felt by so many, with hopes the wonderful memories of shared time provide peace to you and the children.

To his wife and children,

I am so sorry for your loss. I knew Todd in High School. We shared many good memories of Young Life. He was such a kind, humble and respectful person. Having my own teen son now, I hope he develops into the type of young man that Todd was.

Praying for God's immense comfort and peace for you in the journey that lies ahead.

We knew Todd as a wonderful young man, as he played ball and graduated from East Kentwood with our son. Chuck and Emily were parents that all other Kentwood parents cold look to as very good examples. Todd passed way too soon, as did Emily.

I am in shock... He helped save 2 of my daughters lives...He would stop me in the hallway afterwards whenever he would see me and ask, by name, how my girls were doing. He was a wonderful doctor and person. He will be greatly missed.

Arla Falk

July 5, 2013

Our sincere sympathy to your family. Todd was there to help with the health problems of 2 of our daughters over the years in the PICU and otherwise. His comforting attitude meant so much to me and especially my wife when we were there. Even when he didn't have direct care for our daughters, he would ask how everyone was doing if we saw him in the hall or even the one time I ran into him in the elevator. It is hard to find Doctors that honestly care so much about their patients and realize how much it affects the families as a whole. He was a very special man, and will be missed very much.

Dr. Stewart, not a single day went by without you smiling and making someone's day. I loved our "family" conversations and I knew you truly loved yours by your stories. You are such an amazing person and you truly cared for your family, PICU family, and patients and that is what I am holding on to. I now know that we have a special guardian angel watching over all of us and keeping us safe. May Janet and her family find comfort by holding on to those great memories and confiding in the people that love and care for them.

I was the PICU resident on Todd's first week at SJH 10 years ago. His energy, kindness and talent were immediately apparent. He had a way of making even the toughest on call nights seem fun. He was a wonderful mentor and role model and I owe him so much. His guidance helped shape the doctor I am today. His unexpected departure leaves a tremendous void. Todd was a great physician, teacher and friend. Thank you Todd - for everything.

How very tragic and sad. Todd was one of a kind, a superb pediatric intensivist, a charismatic leader who sought the very best care for every paient coming to the Marshfield Clinic, and a wonderful human being who cared passionately about his family, his many friends and all his patients. He made all who worked with him better as healthcare providers and as people. We deeply cherish the time we had with you, Todd, we're so sorry it was cruelly cut short.

Dr. Stewart was not only a great teacher but a much loved person too. When I was a resident there, he not only taught me how to take care of patients, but also instilled in me confidence through his kind words and praise. Just want to share with you how Dr. Stewart touched our family. 3 years ago our son was in an accident. Dr. Stewart was our Dr. in PICU. We felt he went above and beyond in the care he gave to not only our son but to us as parents. Even when our son was moved out of PICU, Dr Stewart checked in on us. I can still see him running down the hall when things were not going so well for us. He was an outstanding Doctor. Your family has our sympathy. May God give you peace and carry you through this time.

Our condolences to Dr. Stewart's family, friends and co-workers. We knew him for a few short weeks while our son was in the PICU this past April. We instantly liked him and looked forward to the day we would bring our son back to see everyone at SJH. Dr. Stewart was an advocate for our son in our desire to transfer him to MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, TX, which is where we are today! God Bless the entire family and community! I believe that my son has gained a new guardian Angel in Heaven as he fights his battle with brain cancer! Dr. Stewart will surely be watching over his wife and children as well as his PICU flock from above. God Bless you. Doug, Tanya and Brody E.

Dr Stewart was right up there as one of our favorite faculty members during my training. He was kind, loved to teach, brilliant, so down-to-earth and had an amazing sense of humor. Dear Janet, Devon and Nick..... words can't even begin to express what we would hope to be able to say to you. Know that Todd was one of the most 'down to earth' physicians I had the privledge to work with/beside. He exemplified how to provide awesome medical care while at the same time expressing wonderful 'bedside' care. Everyone who worked with your dad/husband took away something that we can apply to how we care for patients too. Hold tight to your memories as these memories will become treasures forever in your heart.

I had great admiration for you and looked forward to working when we were "on" together. You taught me so much about medicine as well as people. I will miss you- your loss is a great void

Over the years at the hospital there have been tears of joy and tears of sorrow, but nothing compares to the tears, the sorrow, and the emptiness that was instantly felt upon hearing this shattering and tragic news. It was an honor to work with this amazing man that taught so many so much in the little amount of time we had to spend with him.

An exemplary leader with sublime skills & tremendous ability. The savior of countless lives - his body may have withered away to rigors, his soul has not.. He is immortalized by his teachings, that his students shall take forward for years to come.. God Bless his soul.
