I just saw the notice about Todd's death in Northwestern Magazine. I am so sorry for your loss. Although I hadn't seen you two in several years, Todd's name often came up in conversation when recounting stories about our travels and time at Camp Winaukee in New Hampshire between freshman and sophomore year in college. I will always have fond memories of Todd and our time spent together when we were young. He was a great guy. My deepest condolences to you and your family.

I had numerous classes with Todd in high school. I remember him well and am sad to read of his passing. Sincere condolences to family, friends, and those who knew him in his medical practice.

Janet, I am on the NU Class of 1988 Reunion Committee and was doing some follow up work on Reunion attendees when I ran across this obituary for Todd. We were out of the country when Todd passed away, and I did not know of it until now. I am very sorry sorry for your loss. Although I had not been in contact with Todd since our days at the Sigma Chi house, I can't help but note the parallels in our lives since then and that we have been living not very far apart (you in Marshfield and Amy and I in Madison) for several years. You and your children have our deepest sympathy, and our thoughts and prayers are with you.

What a wonderful physician to learn from. I loved working in the PICU with him.

Janet and the kids--I never heard him brag about specifics but it was always so clear to me how proud he was of his family. My thoughts are with you all.

Mr. Stewart and Family,
I was so shocked and saddened to hear about Todd's passing and also his mom! I graduated from East Kentwood with Todd. ( He was my date to my first formal-Homecoming our Freshman year)
I'm not surprised that he became a caring Physician and loving husband and father, he was one in a million!
Please know my thoughts and prayers are with you all.
July 09, 2013
Janet, at this very moment as you are surrounded by family and friends eulogizng Todd, I am there in thought and prayer. Such a talented, friendly gentleman, not surprising the caring 'friend down the hall' became a gifted physician and loving family man. You recognized and encouraged these qualities in him, making him whole and better, and he you. Your loss is felt by so many, with hopes the wonderful memories of shared time provide peace to you and the children.
July 08, 2013
Janet, Devon, and Nick,
You are in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. Devon and Nick, it is important that you know that not only was your father a skilled physician and leader, but most importantly he was an honorable man. He was so proud of his wonderful family. We pray that God will bring you HIs peace.
July 08, 2013
To his wife and children,

I am so sorry for your loss. I knew Todd in High School. We shared many good memories of Young Life. He was such a kind, humble and respectful person. Having my own teen son now, I hope he develops into the type of young man that Todd was.

Praying for God's immense comfort and peace for you in the journey that lies ahead.
July 08, 2013

I am so saddened and shocked to hear this unthinkable news. Dr Stewart thank you for your generosity, welcoming me into your families home, and offering me the chance to shadow you at work. 10 years later I'm close to graduating PA school. Thank you for inspiring me and giving me an awesome opportunity. You were an amazing, kind man, and I'm so sad for your wonderful sweet family. The world was touched by your generous spirit.
July 05, 2013
Shocked to hear this terrible news regarding Todd, Janet. Heard through NU grapevine just now, please know that your support extends through to those you may not have seen or heard from in decades.

With Deepest Sympathy & Love,

July 05, 2013
We knew Todd as a wonderful young man, as he played ball and graduated from East Kentwood with our son. Chuck and Emily were parents that all other Kentwood parents cold look to as very good examples. Todd passed way too soon, as did Emily.
July 05, 2013
I am deeply shocked. He saved my daughter's life. My daughter was a long term patient in the PICU for a few months when we lived in WI. He was a good and kind hearted person. He will be greatly missed. My thoughts and prayers are with his family at this time of need.
July 05, 2013
It takes a special person to work with young patients and families in crisis, and they don't come better than Dr. Stewart. Our organization has had the privilege of working with Dr. Stewart several times over the years at St. Joseph's, and our hearts go out to both his family and his work family.
July 05, 2013
Oh, my gosh! My deepest sympathies to you and your family Janet. Such a loss to you, your family and the medical community in Marshfield. My heart goes out to you.

July 05, 2013
Janet and Family,
It was such an honor to have gone to Rush Medical School with Todd. He was a wonderful, kind man with a great sense of humor who made medical school feel so much more like a family. I am very saddened by his passing. My thoughts and prayers are with you.
July 05, 2013
I am in shock... He helped save 2 of my daughters lives...He would stop me in the hallway afterwards whenever he would see me and ask, by name, how my girls were doing. He was a wonderful doctor and person. He will be greatly missed.
July 05, 2013
Our sincere sympathy to your family. Todd was there to help with the health problems of 2 of our daughters over the years in the PICU and otherwise. His comforting attitude meant so much to me and especially my wife when we were there. Even when he didn't have direct care for our daughters, he would ask how everyone was doing if we saw him in the hall or even the one time I ran into him in the elevator. It is hard to find Doctors that honestly care so much about their patients and realize how much it affects the families as a whole. He was a very special man, and will be missed very much.
July 04, 2013
Mentor, teacher, friend. My heart and prayers to Janet and family.
July 04, 2013

July 04, 2013
Dr. Stewart, not a single day went by without you smiling and making someone's day. I loved our "family" conversations and I knew you truly loved yours by your stories. You are such an amazing person and you truly cared for your family, PICU family, and patients and that is what I am holding on to. I now know that we have a special guardian angel watching over all of us and keeping us safe. May Janet and her family find comfort by holding on to those great memories and confiding in the people that love and care for them.
July 04, 2013

Terribly sorry to hear this shocking news. Please know your many friends in Chicago will be thinking of you, and will be eager to help in any way.
July 04, 2013
7 years since I last saw or spoke to Dr Stewart.. Yet memories as fresh as that of yesterday. The easy going manner, warm smile, the booming voice and always a kind word for everyone. He was a wonderful man. I can't believe he is gone and I can't shake the heaviness in my heart. RIP. You were and will always be loved and cherished. Sheela Lingaiah
July 04, 2013
I was the PICU resident on Todd's first week at SJH 10 years ago. His energy, kindness and talent were immediately apparent. He had a way of making even the toughest on call nights seem fun. He was a wonderful mentor and role model and I owe him so much. His guidance helped shape the doctor I am today. His unexpected departure leaves a tremendous void. Todd was a great physician, teacher and friend. Thank you Todd - for everything.
July 04, 2013
Shocked to hear of this; he was not even near the apogee of his career. Such a grounded touchstone during the tough years of med school.
Condolences to Janet and their children.
July 03, 2013
Extending our deepest sympathy for your loss. He was such a cheerful positive face during the stress of pediatric sedation/marrow draws/spinal chemo. It's painful to imagine not seeing him again. May fond memories carry you through, and may time heal your pain. Love, the Andersons, Calumet MI

I am so very sorry for your loss. He was an incredible doctor to my son while we were in the PICU in Marshfield.
July 03, 2013
How very tragic and sad. Todd was one of a kind, a superb pediatric intensivist, a charismatic leader who sought the very best care for every paient coming to the Marshfield Clinic, and a wonderful human being who cared passionately about his family, his many friends and all his patients. He made all who worked with him better as healthcare providers and as people. We deeply cherish the time we had with you, Todd, we're so sorry it was cruelly cut short.
July 03, 2013
Janet, I cannot begin to say how sad I am to hear this news. I am so very sorry for your loss. My heart is with you and your children.
July 03, 2013
Chuck,
It's hard to understand why people are taken from us, but we hope you will find comfort in knowing that you were a special part of such a well-lived life. Todd was someone you can always be proud of! We hope you'll remember you have friends who will listen and care, and we are two of them.
Lovingly,

Janet, Devon and Nick, we are so sad to hear of your loss. Todd was always so much fun to be around. His wit and humor will be missed.
July 03, 2013
My sincere sympathies to Todd's family. The Stewarts were our next door neighbors when I was a kid, and our families spent fun times at their lake cottage together. I see from reading this guestbook that Todd became a devoted husband and father, a talented clinician and a compassionate caregiver. What a tragic loss. May you find comfort as you grieve.
July 03, 2013
Recollections of Todd caring for severely ill pediatric patients, dealing kindly with their families, interacting with physician comrades and guiding Pediatric ICU personnel can only be be described, as "outstanding"! For Todd's wife and children, prayers of comfort and peace for them and their new Angel, and the traditional Navy wish of "Fair Winds and Following Seas!" Godspeed to all of you....and Todd. Captain Pete

So sorry to hear this devastating news. Your family is in my prayers. May Todd's memory be eternal.
July 03, 2013
Dr. Stewart was not only a great teacher but a much loved person too. When I was a resident there, he not only taught me how to take care of patients, but also instilled in me confidence through his kind words and praise. I knew he loved and cared about his family deeply and my thoughts are with them. I have had a heavy heart since yesterday. He will be missed, but I will always remember him for his impact on my career and for the wonderful person he was.
July 03, 2013
Just want to share with you how Dr. Stewart touched our family. 3 years ago our son was in an accident. Dr. Stewart was our Dr. in PICU. We felt he went above and beyond in the care he gave to not only our son but to us as parents. Even when our son was moved out of PICU, Dr Stewart checked in on us. I can still see him running down the hall when things were not going so well for us. He was an outstanding Doctor. Your family has our sympathy. May God give you peace and carry you through this time.
July 03, 2013

Janet, Devon, and Nick
Our deepest sympathy and prayers go out to you in this time of great loss. Keep all the special memories close to your hearts.
July 03, 2013
Our condolences to Dr. Stewart's family, friends and co-workers. We knew him for a few short weeks while our son was in the PICU this past April. We instantly liked him and looked forward to the day we would bring our son back to see everyone at SJH. Dr. Stewart was an advocate for our son in our desire to transfer him to MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, TX, which is where we are today! God Bless the entire family and community! I believe that my son has gained a new guardian Angel in Heaven as he fights his battle with brain cancer! Dr. Stewart will surely be watching over his wife and children as well as his PICU flock from above. God Bless you. Doug, Tanya and Brody E.
July 03, 2013
I remember Todd so well - we were both quite new to the Clinic when i started. He was amazingly skilled with the children - we did many sedations together. Always kind, funny, dedicated to the cause, supportive - and what a clinician! I am saddened to hear of his death. Much, much too early. All my heartfelt wishes to the family.
July 03, 2013
My sincerest condolences to Janet, Devon, Nick, and the rest of Todd's family and coworkers. It was an honor to attend medical school with Todd, and a pleasure to later reconnect with him at Marshfield Clinic while I was practicing in Antigo, WI.
"Rest eternal grant to him, O Lord, and let light perpetual shine upon him..."
July 03, 2013
Dr Stewart was right up there as one of our favorite faculty members during my training. He was kind, loved to teach, brilliant, so down-to-earth and had an amazing sense of humor. I will always cherish the memory of our last 'theme party' as our class was about to graduate, remembering him leaning against the wall laughing and just hanging out with the nurses and residents.
Our prayers and thoughts are with his family
July 03, 2013
Stewarts, my prayers go out to your family. Todd and I came up in Little League and through H.S. together. Coach Chuck and Mr. Weldy were great influences in my life. Men of integrity were raised up in the Stewart Legacy. I'm so glad I knew you and so sad for your family. From all the kind words written here, it seems you've touched many with the HUGE heart God gave you. Wish I could be in WI to thank Coach Chuck personally and pass along our regards.
July 03, 2013

Dear Janet, Devon and Nick,
My thoughts and prayers are with you, and have been since I learned of Todd's death yesterday. I will greatly miss Todd and me sharing stories about our families. He was so very proud of all of you, Janet, Devon and Nick, and took every opportunity to share his joy of family. I have told many that I cannot imagine working anywhere but PICU/Peds and he played a large role in that. His knowledge, encouragement and passion have made me a better nurse. In this time of unimaginable grief, I hope that you can find comfort in your memories.
July 03, 2013
Todd, your smile and laugh live on in my memory. My thoughts are with your family.

July 03, 2013
Todd's passing is a great loss to all the family and the medical community. My prayers and condolences to all.
July 03, 2013
Dear Janet, Devon and Nick..... words can't even begin to express what we would hope to be able to say to you. Know that Todd was one of the most 'down to earth' physicians I had the privledge to work with/beside. He exemplified how to provide awesome medical care while at the same time expressing wonderful 'bedside' care. Everyone who worked with your dad/husband took away something that we can apply to how we care for patients too. Hold tight to your memories as these memories will become treasures forever in your heart.
Know that you are in our thoughts and prayers--Ed and Cindy Lee
July 03, 2013
Todd was a treasured friend and colleague, and will always be a part of our 'family' here at Lurie Children's Hospital. You are in our thoughts and prayers.

Just three weeks ago Dr. Stewart spoke at our annual board meeting, and he was so passionate about what he did, and so supportive of the work we do in Prevention. It takes a special person to be able to keep the attention of many. Our thoughts go out to his family, friends, and colleagues.

July 02, 2013
Todd, it was just 3 weeks ago today that we talked on the phone over 1/2 hour - I saw you a few days later - and now you are gone. One of the brightest, nicest, smartest guys I'll ever know.

Janet, our sincerest sympathy on your loss.
July 02, 2013
Dr. Stewart started at Marshfield Clinic not too long before I finished my residency. He was one of the most influential teachers/attendings I ever had, and I always looked forward to going back to Marshfield for PALS renewal. He was always excited to talked to a former resident to hear what we were up to, and was always happy to answer some of my list of questions I'd build up between PALS classes. Sending prayers to all his loved ones....
July 02, 2013
Dr Stewart, you will be greatly missed. When you took care of Whitney you were so thorough, kind and patient. You took the time to explain everything to me and patiently let me cry until I was all out of tears. So gentle, caring and down-to-earth. You will be missed by so many. My thoughts and prayers are with your beautiful family....
July 02, 2013
I will miss our talks about our boys who have been friends since forever. You are a man of great glory and pride. It was such an honor to work with you at our children's hospital. You loved what you did! And we loved having you. Yes, you left us too early but you will look down on us and guide us when guidance is needed. May time lessen the hurt and the memories keep you close to our hearts. Miss you, Dr. Stewart. So sorry for your loss -- Janet, Devon and Nick -- he was so proud of his loving family.
