Carolyn A. Flynn 1934 - 2012 HOLYOKE - Carolyn Alice (Bannon) Flynn, 77, of her "beloved" Holyoke, was called peacefully to her eternal rest after a long illness on Thursday, June 14, 2012, surrounded by her family and closest friends that she loved so dearly. Born in Springfield and educated at Cathedral High School and the Mercy School of Nursing, she was the youngest child of the late Clair and Agnes (Guilshan) Bannon. She married the late Timothy F. Flynn on June 7, 1958 and shared 52 glorious years with him on a journey rich with family, friends and wonderful memories. Carolyn worked as an Emergency Room Nurse at the Providence Hospital in Holyoke until its closure and kept the countless friends she made while working there close through all of her days. She was a member of Saint Anthony's Guild and the Massachusetts and American Nurse's Associations. A passionate "Mom" and "Nana", she cared deeply for her family and loved spending time with them above all else. While her family was her "hobby", when she wasn't attending one of her children's or grandchildren's countless sporting events or activities throughout the years, she loved to immerse herself in a good book or be out with friends (especially Thursday nights with the "Providence Crew"). Carolyn leaves many to cherish her memory, including her five children: Steven Flynn and his wife Ann of Holyoke, Kevin Flynn and his wife Debra of Holyoke, Timothy P. Flynn and his wife Louise of New Rochelle NY, David Flynn and Elizabeth Chase of West Springfield, and Kathryn (Flynn) Phelan and her husband Timothy of East Longmeadow, ten grandchildren who will forever miss their "Nana" : Michael, Brendan, John, Anna, Sarah, Lily, Thomas, Liam, Aidan and Emmet, a great grandchild, Kellan, two brothers: Paul Bannon of Paxton MA and Douglas Bannon of Poughkeepsie NY, a sister, Jane (Bannon) Bate of Venice FL, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Timothy F. Flynn and a daughter, Kathleen A. Flynn. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday morning at 11:30 at Blessed Sacrament Church, 1945 Northampton Street, Holyoke. Burial will be at the convenience of her family. Calling hours will be held Tuesday from 3:00 to 7:00 pm at the Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home, 2049 Northampton Street in Holyoke. In lieu of flowers, the family would like donations made in Carolyn's memory to the Alzheimer's Association, 311 Arsenal St. Watertown MA 02472 or to the Autism Society of America, Massachusetts Chapter, 47 Walnut St. Wellesley Hills MA 02481-2108.

We just lost our Mom (Carolyn's sister Jane) last week. They looked so much alike! The sisters always stayed in touch and spoke on the phone at least once a week. Their generation is fast disappearing. Here's an image of Jane from 1977.
