Edward J. Gallagher EAST GRANBY - Edward J. Gallagher, 70, of East Granby, beloved husband of 41 years of Brenda (Libratore) Gallagher, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 20, 2012 at Hartford Hospital after a courageous eight year battle with emphysema. He was born November 5, 1941 in Hartford to the late Joseph and Sophie (Zomek) Gallagher. Edward lived his whole life in East Granby and was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing. He also served his country honorably in the U.S. Air Force. He had retired in 1988 from Wiremold in West Hartford where he was a machinist. He loved to win at the casinos, loved cooking for his family, but enjoyed nothing more than spending time with his children and grandchildren. In addition to his wife he is survived by his son, Patrick Gallagher of East Granby; daughter, Deborah Garrity and her significant other Bob Warren of Simsbury; stepson, Russell White and his fiancee Julie Underhill of Windsor Locks, his grandchildren, Michelle Sirois and her husband Jason of Ft. Pierce, FL; Glen Garrity, Jr. and his significant other Kari Miller of Southwick, MA. He also leaves his father-in-law, John Libratore and his companion Stella Rychlowski of Windsor Locks; mother-in-law, Jewel McMullen of Stuart, FL; brothers-in-law, Ronald Libratore and his wife Yvonne of West Suffield; Mark Libratore and his wife Cindy of Stuart, FL; former son-in-law, Glen Garrity, Sr. of Corinth, ME; best friend, Vinnie Klonoski, as well as many nieces, nephews, and other relatives. In addition to his parents Edward was predeceased by his son, Edward Gallagher, Jr. Family and friends may gather on Thursday, March 22, 10 a.m. at the Hayes-Huling & Carmon Funeral Home, 364 Salmon Brook St., Granby, followed by a Funeral Service at the South Congregational Church, Granby. Burial will follow in St. Bernard Cemetery, Tariffville. His family will receive friends TODAY, Wednesday, March 21, from 6-9 p.m. at the funeral home. It has been over 50 years since I last saw Ed he was my best child hood friend. I'm sorry I never got to see him again after I left Connecticut.
