Eileen F. (Murphy) Nadeau, 88, a longtime resident of the East Springfield section of Springfield, was Called Safely Home on Friday, March 28, 2014. She entered into Eternal Life at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield surrounded by the care and comfort of her family. She was born in Springfield on June 13, 1925, a daughter of the late Thomas and Anna (Kennedy) Murphy. She was raised in the Hungry Hill section of Springfield, graduated in 1944 from the former Technical High School in Springfield and was a lifelong resident of the city. For many years, Eileen and her family summered at Little Alum Lake in Brimfield and wintered in Fort Myers Beach, Florida which they enjoyed. Her work career spanned many years and included the Paramount Theater, American Bosch and General Accident Company, all in Springfield; and Elmcrest Country Club in East Longmeadow. Active in her faith, she was a longtime communicant of the former Saint Mary Church, now Mary, Mother of Hope Church, in East Springfield where she was a member of their Women's Club. She was also a member of the John Boyle O'Reilly Club in Springfield. She leaves her beloved husband and best friend, Retired Springfield District Fire Chief, George "Clem" Nadeau. They were married on November 22, 1952 at Sacred Heart Church in Springfield and were blessed with over 61 years of happiness together. She also leaves her three children, Ann Marie Balboni and her husband, Stephen, of Springfield, Joseph A. Nadeau and his wife, Sarah, of Chicopee, and Bettina M. Nadeau of Brimfield; her grandchildren, Nichol Duffany and her husband, Aaron, Stephanie Cuoco and her husband, Andrew, Rachel Nadeau and Timothy Haggerty; her three great grandchildren, Chelsea Marie Duffany, Charlee Ann Duffany and Logan Cuoco; and many nephews, nieces, cousins, and extended members of the Nadeau and Murphy families. Besides her parents, she was also predeceased by her sisters and brother, Mary Morrisino, John "Jack" Murphy and Elizabeth "Betty" Caporale. Her funeral will be held on Wednesday morning, April 2, 2014 beginning at the St. Pierre - Phaneuf Springfield Chapels, (413-737-1177), 7 Chapin Terrace, Springfield, MA 01107, (funeral home will open at 8:30 a.m.), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Mary, Mother of Hope Church, 840 Page Boulevard, East Springfield, MA 01104. Her burial will follow the Mass at Saint Patrick Cemetery, 168 Fuller Road, Chicopee, MA 01020. Her family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday, April 1, 2014 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Her family has requested that memorial donations be made in her memory to either Saint Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 Saint Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1942 or to Mary, Mother of Hope Church, 840 Page Boulevard, Springfield, MA 01104. Clem, I am deeply sorry for your lose. Eileen was a lovely lady, always so happy and filled with the love of the Lord. I have wonderful memories of Eileen from the General Accident days. I well remember the excitement both of you shared when you moved into your home on East Street.
May the Good and Gracious Lord hold Eileen's beautiful soul in the palm of His hand.
