I just learned the sad news of Eric's passing - I had been thinking of him recently even though we had not seen each other in 30 years.
One of my favorite memories: Eric was part of a small group who had formed a wine club, a great excuse to imbibe and "learn" about wines. This great collection included John Ryan, Chris Pace, "Skates," and a few others.
At one winter night's gathering, the question for the room was "What do you like to do when it's cold?"
A number of Beta house guys had been wanting to turn up the heat as it was a cold winter, but President Eric had thought we could put on sweaters rather than crank up the thermostat to help keep costs down. So when it came to Eric's turn to say what he did when it's cold, I blurted out for him: "Turn off the heat in the Beta house!"
Nobody laughed harder than Eric. That was him - he could laugh at everything, especially himself.
A great man, a great friend, and a great leader. Eric, your family and friends miss you, but you will never be forgotten.
