To Bill and Leslie,
You may not not remember me, but I spent most of my free time during junior high school years at Mitchel Field with Jim, and stayed in touch with him via mail and occasional visits through 1988. He was a great friend, one of the greatest writers I've ever known (I grew up to be a writer), and I still miss him.
I was sorry to learn from a friend of your mother's passing this year. She was a lovely lady, and I enjoyed my time in your home on Ellington Avenue all those years ago. It was a pleasure to read in her obituary what a rich and full life she had embraced all these years since returning to South Hadley.
I wish you and yours well, and extend my deepest condolences on the loss of your mother,
With best regard and respect,
J. Eric Smith
