James R. Crean, 94, died Wednesday, January 10, 2018 in a local nursing home. He was born in Westfield on June 16, 1923 to the late James and Irene (Gadreault) Crean. He grew up in Westfield and attended local schools. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean War. He worked at Columbia Bicycle and worked for the Westfield School Systems for 35 years. He was a parishioner of St. Mary’s Church and was a member of the Men’s Club. Jim was an avid golfer and was a longtime member of Tekoa Country Club. He was a member of the Westfield Amvets, and was an umpire for the Westfield Babe Ruth in 1960’s. He was also an avid Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots fan. He was pre-deceased by his wife of 63 years Josephine (Lenza) Crean in 2016. He leaves his children James J. Crean and his wife Carole of Westfield, Paul A. Crean and his wife Lisa of Medford OR, Stephen R. Crean and his wife Kim of Agawam, Dr. William T. Crean and his husband Glenn Fitzgerald of Lakewood, CA and Christopher Crean of Westfield. He also leaves his grandchildren James, Michael, Jennifer, Danielle, Jacob, Rianna, Courtney, Kayla Crean and C.J., Joseph, Robert, Cailyn Crean. Jim was pre-deceased by his brother William Crean and sisters Mary Rose Crean and Shirley Petrucelli. The funeral will be held on Wednesday January 17th at 9:30 am from the Firtion-Adams Funeral Service, 76 Broad Street, Westfield followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10:30 am in St. Mary’s Church. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday at the funeral home from 4-7 pm. Donations in memory of Jim may be made to the D’Amour Cancer Center, 3350 Main Street, Springfield, MA 01107.

Crean Family......I was very sorry to read of Jim's passing. I played golf with him many times in the old Saint Mary's Golf League. It was always a fun time! He sure had a long and good life. My best to all of you.
