Katherine Sacco Obituary

Katherine Sacco 1931 - 2013 PITTSFIELD - Katherine Mary (Turschmann) Sacco, known to everyone as Kay, passed away in the company of family at home on October 13, 2013. Kay was born in Boston, MA to Catherine M. (Walker) Turschmann and Frederick Turschmann on January 18th, 1931. She graduated from Regis College where she met her future husband, Rudolph Sacco. While in college she was the class marshall, and described as having a "model-like stature... prefers tailored clothes...," and having an interest in "legal work." Initially after graduation, Kay taught school outside of Boston. Katherine and Rudolph married in Newton, MA on June 21, 1953. After they moved to Pittsfield, MA, Kay ran a preschool and later Camp Karu with her husband. She was an inspiration to hundreds of children along with her own 10 children. She was gracious and unique in her way of accepting people as they were while at the same time encouraging them to stretch and unfold. Her greatest legacies include being a partner with an unyielding devotion to her husband, retired Judge Rudolph Sacco, and having a belief in her children that helped to sustain them in all of life's upheavals. She was amazing in her ability and willingness to do what needed to be done without ever complaining. Kay was predeceased by her daughter Virginia (Ginny) A. Sacco, her son Rudolph (Randy) A. Sacco and her only sibling Fredrick Turschmann. She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Judge Rudolph Sacco, and her 8 children: Atty. Cami Kinahan of Los Angeles, CA and her husband Brian; Dom Sacco of Dalton, MA, MA Parks Program Coordinator; Carrie Sacco, RN of Monson, MA and her husband Steven Scannell; Judi Sacco-Coleman, Financial Planner, of Sandwich, MA and her husband Randy Coleman; Cathi Sacco, Managing Consultant of Adult Social Services of Northampton, England and her companion Gary Rylands; Atty. Robert Sacco of Westfield, MA and his wife Mary Beth Ogulewicz; Dianne Sacco, MD, of Milton, MA and her husband Gregg Chandler; and Atty. Alycia Sacco-Duquette of Pittsfield, MA and her husband Chris Duquette. She leaves 18 grandchildren: Danielle and Taylor Kinahan; Rudy, Venice and Domenique Sacco; Tai Hammarlof; Kayla Coleman; Laura, Thomas and Emma Rylands; Katherine, Dante, Elizabeth and Ethan Sacco; Noelle Chandler; and Randi, Jamie and Jake Duquette. She leaves behind 5 step grandchildren Cassie Breeden, Daniel Chandler, Krista Coleman, and Stewart and Spencer Scannell. Kay also leaves behind two dear sisters-in-law, Clara Sacco and Betty Sacco, nephews and nieces Dom Sacco, Steven, Karen and Lisa Turschmann. Calling hours will be Tuesday, October 15, 2013 at St. Mark's Church, 400 West Street, Pittsfield, MA 01201, from 4-8 p.m. A concelebrated Liturgy of Christian Burial will be Wednesday, October 16, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mark's Church. Burial will follow in the family plot at St. Joseph's Cemetery. Following the burial there will be a reception at Bucksteep Manor, 885 Washington Mountain Road, Washington, MA. Anyone wishing to attend the funeral for Katherine should go directly to St. Mark's Church. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Randy Sacco Memorial Scholarship Fund or Hospice Care in the Berkshires, Inc. 877 South Street, Suite 1 West, Pittsfield, MA 01201 or in care of the FLYNN & DAGNOLI BENCIVENGA FUNERAL HOME, 5 Elm St. Pittsfield, MA 01201, who is in charge of arrangements. Kay made such a difference in my life. I began working at Camp Karu when I was 12 and continued every summer through my Sophomore year in college. Kay always made me feel important and valued. As a 12 yr. old in my first job, I was pretty apprehensive and in her warm and caring way, I was made to feel right at home. Bless you, Rudy and your family. With love. Patty Lonabocker Rawson
