Tom,
I am very sorry to discover your dad's passing. I learned many different skills while working for you and they stay with me to this day. You truly ran a tight ship and I was in fact very proud to be part of the crew. I reminisce of all of the good times and let the rest roll away in the tides. If anyone I worked with wasn't there at the time, I think it'd be fair to say it truly wouldn't have been as interesting.
My deepest sympathy goes out to you and your family.

My father Richard Shepard knew both Thomas the father and Thomas the son when the Oaks was at the Kimball Towers. Years later when The Oaks was a beautiful facility on Suffield Street, Agawam, I stopped to see about having a fundraiser there, and the two Toms gave my group an entire room for a full evening, free of charge. Not only that, Tom the son helped serve coffee and let us use the kitchen. They were wonderful to the outdoor cats that lived outside the restaurant and they were super to everyone in town who needed help. The Lions, the Mayor, so many groups had their events at The Oaks. It was a great loss to have the restaurant torn down and turned into an insurance company. It was really nice to work with the two Toms and to know that they remembered my father. It meant a great deal to me. Our fundraiser was wonderful, too. We did not make a fortune, but everyone had a great time, with musicians donating their time. My daughter even got a video of the show. Charlie Daniels Band donated their equipment and their talent to the evening, too. Tom will be missed, he was a true gentleman and an extremely decent human being.
