To the family and friends of Matt:

It is often difficult to find the words to express how one feels at a time of such great loss. My heart is filled with pain and sorrow at the loss of a great soldier and a close friend. I had the pleasure of going through CP training with Matt, a course that taxed us to our physical, mental and emotional limits. Through it all Matt could be counted on to keep things light with a witty joke or a funny comment, but he also knew that when it was time for business, there was no joking around. I was always amazed at the maturity and discretion that he exhibited for such a young man. These qualities made him an exceptional soldier. I will miss Matt a great deal, but I know that he would want us all to carry on and to honour him that is what we should all do.
