To The Lucas Family & Faithful;
I knew Maurice as a youngster, playing basketball on the Chauncey Drive and Francis Street courts in the Hill District of Pittsburgh. As the Clinton Family entry of this book says, it was about basketball with Maurice Lucas. I was a few years ahead of Maurice at Schenley H.S. and it gave me great pride to learn that Maurice Lucas and J. Kelly speared Schenley to the State Title for the 69-70 season. I followed Maurice's NBA career and smiled quite happily when he and Bill Walton lead the Trailblazers to the 77 NBA Title over the Philadelphia 76ers. It was very gratifying, to me, that one of the Hill District of Pittsburgh's own made it to the top of the basketball world. I'm quite late with this entry to Maurice's Memorial Guestbook, but it bothered me to learn that Maurice had been gone (to the Almighty Father)a while and I had no knowledge of his demise. The tributes and honors paid to Maurice, herein, are wonderful and deserved. I knew Maurice and the Lucas Family years ago. For you, the Lucas Family, now, my deepest condolences for your loss. K. Owens, Schenley Spartans, 64-65 (City Champions)

Our sincerest condolences to the Lucas Family. We knew Maurice from his days with the St. Louis Spirits. A great player and great guy. We were so very deeply saddened to learn of his death. The good they do die young. May he rest in peace.
