A true legend...

Dear Whitman/Beagle family,
I met Slim and Byron backstage at the Shrine Mosque Theatre in Peoria, Illinois in 1981, took pictures, interviewed Slim and had both Byron and Slim sign my own copy of his Birmingham Jail album. I still treasure it. I had been a fan before and have been ever since. Many of his songs have been on my Christmas compilation CDs, especially "Let's Go To Church Next Sunday Morning." Bless you all. He struck me then as a very good guy, and that impression remains 32 years later. Best to you all, and Byron, I've got your autograph. Take care - John D.

I learned to play honky tonk piano at 14 years old thanks to your Dad and several other great artist. My dad would play 'Indian Love Call" for my new born daughter when she would cry and she grew up loving his music as well. I have his music and was just playing two of his songs for a retirement facility yesterday. Slim was just four years older than my own father. The new world that is promised holds great talent. You are all in our thoughts!

Slim sang it best: "When my life is through and the angels ask me to recall the thrill of them all, then I will tell them I remember you . . ."
