I was a young child, and my father had a Chrysler New Yorker that as long as a city block. Every time he started it, the Slim Whitman 8 track went in. Today at 43 , I can still see and hear him coming down the road. I grew up listening to Slim. I liked it then and like it now. Hate to hear that we lost such a talanted man. I think I might listen to Slims CD today
December 16, 2013
I was lucky enough to see this wonderful artist live on stage, some years ago. He stood on stage all in white, with the sparkle of his suit flashing, his voice so clear, and I felt so proud to be in the company of such a man. An image that has never faded over these many years. A star then and a star even more today....

Slim Whitman was a great person. Many years ago I interviewed him for WNCO Country Music in Ashland, OH. He was the genuine article. He told me he would not do a song that could not be sung in church and he had not performed in bars. His music has seen me through rough times in my life and for that I will always be grateful. Heaven has added a wonderful man to the heavenly choir but I will always have the memories and his wonderful songs.
June 29, 2013
I know it hurts your heart to let him go - but he was SO blessed to have such a good life and leave such a wonderful legacy.

June 23, 2013
Even though I was a very little girl and only met him a couple of times, I felt that Slim was a friend of mine... always have even now at the age of almost 70. He let my brother sing on a couple of his personal appearances in the early 50s and I grew up seeing him with my family on The Louisiana Hayride. I thought for years that he was the very best-looking man I'd ever seen in my life and even though I didn't know the word for it as a child... the sexiest. My family LOVED his music and I had most of his recordings but regretfully lost them in Hurricane Katrina. What a gentleman, singer and, from what I gather, father and husband he was! I will always love him and think of him as my friend as he always brought so much joy to my family and me. My condolences to the family.

My condolences to the WHITMAN family. i remember the Louisiana hayride. may the God of comfort help your family to endure.
June 22, 2013
My heart is crushed to know that Slim is gone. His music was my first taste of country music and his special music lived in my heart and home from then on. I only met Slim once at a concert in Sacramento,Ca. He was alone in the hallway outside the auditorium after the crowd had gone back inside for the rest of the concert of multiple performers. Being shy, but being a lifelong lover of Slim's music, I approached him and asked for his autograph. The only paper I had with me was my driver's license, but Slim smiled and said that was ok, and he signed it. He was so kind and easy to talk with and those brief moments gave me insight into what a nice man he was, with no "star" attitude at all. (I had to report a lost drivers license in order to keep that treasure).
Rest is peace, Mr. Whitman, until that wonderful day our Creator restores you to life right here on earth when it is once again a paradise and you will be reunited with your lovely Gerry. We will look for you and once again hear that very special voice flow from a very kind and loving heart.
June 22, 2013
We had heard Slim Whitman's music back in the West Indies as young people and thought he was every bit as good as Elvis or the Beatles. We eventually met him personally in Marathon, Fl. Keys, when he asked us to work on his beloved fishing boat "Chicken of the Sea". We knew a lot of wealthy celebrities from our yacht engine repair business but Slim was a breath of fresh air. Courtly, friendly and always a perfect gentleman. Few people probably know this but Slim was also a pretty good mechanic and got involved personally with any problem or issue on his boat. His celebrity was one thing; his genuine decency topped it all and we know he'll be greatly missed by his family and many friends. Rest in Peace, Slim, you were a fine and talented gentleman.
Bill, Mary and Alan Cadiz, Eustis, Fl.
June 22, 2013
I first heard Slim in about 1952 at the Empire theatre in Liverpool. He inspired a group of us young lads to yodel. We practiced on our street corner with our guitars. Rose Marie has been with us ever since. Even today, and for the last 15 years I have been imitating him around the residential homes of Sussex England, cheering the old folk who remember the greatest yodeller ever. He was a mega-star who had his feet on the ground, with always a friendly smile and a sincere handshake for his fans whom he looked upon as his genuine friends.
The world will miss you Slim, but I am sure that you will be welcomed with open arms ( and ears! ) to join in the praises of the God you know so well.
Thank you so much for all you did for me. God bless you

Sincerest sympathy to Sharon, Byron, and Slim's fans. It seems country music is losing a lot of the great singers, but thankfully their music lives on. I can just imagine the reunion they are having and look forward to joining them some day. May God bless and comfort you in your sorrow. May you find peace knowing how much he and his music were loved. I still enjoy very much the old country music and Slim was one of my favorites because he had a different sound. Thoughts and prayers.

I started listening to Slim in the early 60's, my Dad was in the Navy, and Slim did a concert tour while he was in the Navy. Daddy had all his records. I once saw Slim at a concert in Middleburg, and asked him if he could still do Love Song Of The Waterfall, my personal favorite, he replied, " I sure hope so", and he certainly could. He was a most gracious man and a most respected entertainer, never heard no dirt on him. I pray for the family to be strong and trust in God to help heal their wounds. May Slim continue to entertain at his heavenly home, as we will continue to have him entertain us in our earthly homes, Rest in peace big guy, and may God bless.

June 20, 2013
I was raised up on a farm in Rural TN, in a family which loved (and many of us performed) many types of music. Most of My dad's family & some of my siblings played stringed instruments and we all sang. From the time we got a radio we listended to the GOO from Nashville and a Country radio show from somewhere in Ohio (which is probably no longer on air). I believe that the first time that I heard Slim Whitman sing & yodel was on that radio show; and from that time on I have Loved his music. My dad did a bit of yodeling when I was quite young; but he had already begun to say that he was too old to Yodel. He had smoked for most of his life and that had an effect on his yodeling, as well as his buckdancing!! Anyway, my dad was the first person I had heard yodel, and had heard a few whose names I cannot recall; yodel on the GOO or other radio shows; which we listened to religiously!! But the first time that we ever heard SW yodel; my dad called all of us children into the room where the radio was and insisted that we be quiet and Listen. After Slim's performance; my dad said, " Now THAT is a real yodeler!" and if I could have EVER done it that well, maybe I would have tried to get on Radio!! That was HIGH praise coming from my dad; who always said that Roy Acuff was one of the best fiddlers on the GOO; but he lacked the breath to be a good Yodeler.
Any time that we knew that Slim W was going to be on the GOO we all gathered around that old battery radio and were silent as we would be when praying; listening to that young man yodel...AND Sing; which he also did well.
He is one of the entertainers that I regret not ever meeting. I have lived most of my adult life in Nashville and one of my sisters married a guy who played in ET's band for many years, and I dated several young men who played and was with performing groups. AND my friend & I have gone to the GOO more times than I can count and Met MANY of the celebrities who performed there and at other venues in Nashville, regularly; but was never lucky enough to even see Slim W on stage at the Opry, but I loved his music and especially the Yodeling. I hope that my dad meets him in Heaven so he can finally tell him that he was the Best yodeler that he had ever heard. My dad was never one to lavish praise on folks, but he surely did think that Slim Whitman was the BEST Yodeler he had ever heard.
I wish to send sympathy & Love to Slim's survivors.. May God wrap you in his loving arms & soothe you with his warmth & Understanding, as only he can.
Sincerely, Anne Archer

I worked with Slim for 26 years. He was the last of the classic legendary Country Western Singers. He sold 120 million records and had a pure range of 3 1/2 octaves. No country Artist today or in the past could match his beautiful singing style with those wonderful falsetto breaks he added in just the right places. We'll miss you Slim. I moved to Orange Park, FL in 1975, shortly there after I was walking thru the Mall, when I saw this person who I had seen on TV selling his 8 Track recorings. I had no idea Slim lived here. Since them, it was common place to see him and his wife in the local restaurants, grocery stores, and other local businesses. Also attended a couple of his concerts. Dear Whitman/Beagle family,
I met Slim and Byron backstage at the Shrine Mosque Theatre in Peoria, Illinois in 1981, took pictures, interviewed Slim and had both Byron and Slim sign my own copy of his Birmingham Jail album. I still treasure it. I had been a fan before and have been ever since. Many of his songs have been on my Christmas compilation CDs, especially "Let's Go To Church Next Sunday Morning." Bless you all. He struck me then as a very good guy, and that impression remains 32 years later. Best to you all, and Byron, I've got your autograph. Take care - John D.
