I had the honor of metting Doug Murphy while he was covering a multiple shooting story that happened at my brother's work place back in 1988. Because of his personality and professionalism that Doug showed, he was the only reporter that my brother would talk with out of the many others that were there. After talking with him myself. He inspired me to go back to school and achieve goals that I thought I would never be able to do. I earned a degree in the medical field. I'm an medical assistant as well as a phlebotomist/lab tech. I think of Doug Murphy often. Little did he know that talking with a 19 yr. old back in 1988 changed her life. I remember him telling me "If you want to do something and have a passion for it, don't let anything stop you and go for it."
To Doug Murphy's family and friends, you are all in my prayers. To Doug Murphy himself. Thank you for giving me words that I will never forget and continue to live by. If you knew it or not, you touched many lives and made it a better place to be. May your star in the sky always shine bright.

I WAS SO SADDENED TO HEAR OF THE PASSING OUR DOUG. MY DAUGHTER BABY SAT FOR HIM AND HIS WIFE SEVERAL YEARS AGO WHEN THEY LIVED IN PIEDMONT. (IN FACT, AMY BOUGHT HER FIRST CAR FROM MRS, MURPHY). I HAVE MISSED SEEING DOUG DO THE NEWS SINCE I MOVED TO ARIZONA 16 MONTHS AGO. I HAVE A LOT OF WONDERFUL MEMORIES OF MR. MURPHY, ON SPECIAL ONE, HOW HONORED OUR FAMILY WAS THAT THE ATTENDED THE FUNERAL OF OUR DAUGHTER LISA IN 1991. IT MEANT SO MUCH TO US. PEACE AND LOVE TO ALL OF HIS FAMILY. GOD BLESS YOU. SINCERELY CAROLE MUSGRAVE
