I moved from the Bay Area to Indiana 6 years ago, but keep up to date via email and the SJ Mercury online. I was profoundly saddened to read today of Mr. Murphy's death. He's one of a very small group of public figures that I remember still and could recognize instantly. Doug Murphy was an excellent reporter and his integrity and connection to his viewers is what I appreciated most about him. My thoughts and prayers go to all those touched by his passing.

We all feel sadness at this tremendous loss. I remember Mr. Murphy most vividly because of his reporting during the Loma Prieta earthquake. He had this way of making us all understand what a terrible thing had happened, while at the same time letting us know it was all going to be alright. My prayers go out to his kids and everyone else who loved him.
