A great loss to all family and friends. A bright candle with too short a flame.
I'm sorry for your loss. Paula and I met while living in Arizona in 1974.
Dear Paula, Matthew Jr. and Jade,
With deepest sympathy and heartfelt condolences to you and your extended family. I shall always treasure the friendship, fellowship and esprit de corps that I shared with a born leader, Matthew Sr. Although we worked together only five years at Asymmetry Capital, we experienced a lifetime during the wind-down of Zero Stage Capital. It was my distinct privilege and high honor to have served with him. I shall always treasure the time we spent together: the planning sessions in Cambridge; the road trips to Washington, DC and Sacramento; and the countless meetings in between. His insight, wisdom and gift for bridging diverse cultures and constituencies were of invaluable benefit to me and my colleagues. We celebrate his life and pray for him. We thank him for having made a profound difference and contribution to our world. We miss him already, but his many accomplishments will endure. In the immortal words of John Donne:
"Death, be not proud, though some have called thee
Mighty and dreadful, for thou are not so;
For those whom thou think'st thou dost overthrow
Die not, poor Death, nor yet canst thou kill me.
From rest and sleep, which but thy pictures be,
Much pleasure; then from thee much more must flow,
And soonest our best men with thee do go,
Rest of their bones, and soul's delivery.
Thou'art slave to fate, chance, kings, and desperate men,
And dost with poison, war, and sickness dwell,
And poppy'or charms can make us sleep as well
And better than thy stroke; why swell'st thou then?
One short sleep past, we wake eternally,
And death shall be no more; Death, thou shalt die."
Dearest Paula, Matthew, and Jade,
I remember so well the first time I met your beautiful family. You were all at the counter at Los Molinos School trying to get your children enrolled. I loved all of you immediately and got both children in! We became friends after that and have enjoyed hearing about all of you as the years have passed. I am so grateful that we could support Matt in his campaigns and will never forget his caring, loving, positive and wonderful attitude and outlook on life. His gifts to our world were many and we are all better for having known him. Our prayers are with all of you. Penny and Vince Fraumeni
Dear Paula and Family,
I well remember Kip when he was a student and friend of mine at the United States Air Force Academy. He was a proud cadet, thoughtful, inspired and inspiring, always looking for challenges. He was a absolute joy to teach. Over time, we became better friends and we saw his chanage to manhood as he grew admirably into a man of wisdom. My heartfelt sympathy to you. Hold onto your memories of him and remember that your love for him is infinite. A leader we can be proud of calling "our friend."
To Mrs. Paula Fong And Family,
I am so sorry for your loss. I admired Mr. Fong very much. My prayers and thoughts are with you.

To Paula and family,
So sorry to hear of Kip's passing. I will always remember the times he and Vince spent together through their school days and adult lives. They were such good friends and he will be missed by all. What a wonderful tribute has been made to him for all of his years of service. Now, Kip and Vince are together again. God Bless you and your family, Paula. He will be missed.

My heartfelt condolences and may the love of family and friends help you through this time of grief and sorrow. My prayers are always with you.
Matt was a great man and a true hero to all of us. His passing will be felt by many of his friends.
A great shock to hear of Matt's passing. My condolences to the Fong family. He was Treasurer when I worked for the Health Facilities Authority and I always found him to be approachable, knowledgeable, and an outstanding public servant. I also went to school with his sister, Sue; my condolences to her as well.
To the Fong Family, especially Paula:
I am so sad to hear about Matt's passing. He was one of the first people I met when I moved to California and attended law school in LA. He was my law school "big brother" and mentor. I was so happy that our friendship grew over the years, and even with all his successes, he was still the same ole Matt-- big brother and mentor to me.
I will miss him terribly and have many fond memories of our friendship from law school to politics.
My heartfelt thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

Matt Fong was a great American who fought for less government and understood the challenges California faces. He knew what businesses needed to thrive; he was a great entrepreneur and friend. He really had a sense of what was wrong with the pension crisis having served as Chairman of the PBGC at the U.S. Dept. of Labor. It is so sad for our state that his voice was not able to be heard as we deal with pension crises at every level of our govenment. Matt Fong was a great mentor to me and someone who gave me exceptional advice both as a political appointee at the Labor Department and as a candidate for office in Assembly District 15 - a district his mom represented many years ago. I shall miss him greatly as he was one of the greatest political minds California has produced. Our state mourns and we should all honor his legacy and comfort his family at this very difficult time. Rest in Peace, Matt Fong. Your legacy shall live on.
... Mr. MATT FONG was always an example of a successful ASIAN-AMERICAN, pioneering in the areas of elected politicians and ones who choose to run...
