Mike Guarino died April 11 after a brief illness. He was 5 days from his 91st birthday.
Mike was born in 1922 in NYC to Italian immigrants. A child of the Depression, Mike developed resiliency and a sense of humor that stayed with him throughout his life. He was blessed with great intellect and graduated Stuyvesant HS in NYC at age 16. He served in WWII in the Seabees and learned carpentry. He graduated from Syracuse University with a BS in Engineering and married the love of his life, Frances Ramona Colucci. They lived in New London, CT with their 3 children from 1958 to 1967 where he worked on the Nautilus at Electric Boat in Groton.
The family moved to San Jose in 1967 to begin a new career at GE Nuclear Energy Division. They moved to Los Gatos in 1973 where he and Fran found a beautiful spot to build a home and lived so happily for 40 years. During their 61 years of marriage, Mike and Fran were avid bridge players, dancers, golfers and recent fans of the Warriors. Mike loved to sing and was a talented harmonica player.
Mike will be greatly missed by his devoted wife, Frances; brother, Nick Guarino; children, Cassandra Guarino, Mary Gilles (Mark), Michael Guarino (Beth); grandchildren, Anna Bargagliotti (Joey Johnson), Paul and Francesca Gilles, Adam Guarino; and great grandchildren Siena and Luca Johnson.
A memorial service will be held at St. Mary's Church in Los Gatos at 3:30pm on Wednesday, April 17.
