Ted was born in Alameda, California on August 24, 1922.#160; He passed away peacefully in Los Gatos, California on February 7, 2013 at the age of 90. Most of his life was spent living in Saratoga and Los Gatos.#160;
Ted was a World War II veteran serving in the U.S. Army from January 1944 to April 1946.#160; He fought in the European theater and served as part of the Army of Occupation.#160;Among other citations, he was awarded the Purple Heart.
Ted was a noted professor in the Department of Political Science at San Jose State University from the fall of 1960 to 1993 at which time he was awarded Emeritus status by SJSU President Robert Caret. Ted specialized in teaching Constitutional Law resulting in many students interested in becoming lawyers learning case law from Norton's course.#160;
Ted enjoyed travelling, gardening and reading.#160; He was a member of the California State Bar Association, served on the Planning Commission for the City of Saratoga, and was an active member of the Saratoga Men's Club.#160;He is survived by his niece, Anne Norton Ayer; and his two nephews, Robert Rule and Steven Rule.
The family has planned a memorial service for one o'clock in the afternoon on Saturday, March 23, 2013 at Saint Andrew's Episcopal Church in Saratoga, California. There will be a brief reception following the service.#160;
In lieu of flowers the family asks that remembrances of Ted be made to the "SJSU Political Science Faculty Endowment" or the "SJSU T.M. Norton Campus Enhancement Fund" in care of San Jose State University.
