Adele Banner and I want to say that Joy was a great "chauffeur" - - providing Adele a ride home from church right up to the last time Joy came to Trinity. It meant so much to Adele that Joy took her home that Sunday. Adele treasured that gesture, so very typical of Joy's thoroughness. thanks Joy.

I'm so sorry to hear of Joys passing. I met her in the 70 as she was the head P.E. coach. I really had the opportunity to get to know her 12 years ago, doing a boot camp at the Willow Glen track. Joy was there warming up power walking first as she talked to all her many friends she had met. Watching her run those bleachers was simply amazing!! Joy did everything with ease and grace! You are my inspiration!!! Every time I do the stairs I'm thinking of you!!! Thanks for believing in me!!! Congratulations on your 25th Marathon!!! Love ya Joy!!

"You'll feel her in the little moments, the stories, the familiar spaces she stepped in and out of. She'll be in your heart, forever a part of you, as sure as stars come out at night, as sure as love."

What a great lady, lived her life to the to the maximum. As a member of the Las Jardineras Garden Club we could always count on Joy to run to the Fair Grounds to water our garden and run home again! God blessed us all for knowing her.

Dearest Joy, Every year I scan the finisher-results for the TC-Marathon and was always so happy that you ran another one. This year, your name did not pop up and I wondered...However, when Al Rocher interviewed you I knew you chose to run the NYC Marathon again and was so happy!!! I am so sad -you're gone. But God had a new plan for your marathoning. There must be a need for trainers up in heaven with the sweetest smile. I only run up to 13 miles but will take the inspiration you give us and think of you when I head out the door or line up for race for another run. I will enter a new age div. (75-79) and will count on Angel JOY to be my running partner. Much love, Siglinde Moore, Minneapolis, MN

May you rest in peace, Ms. Johnson. Our paths never crossed - but as a fellow marathoner, I share your passion for completing those 26.2-mile transformational journeys and will think of you often during my future races. Thank you for your inspiration to people around the globe.

Why do we run? We run because we can. We were born to run until we are set free!

I'm sorry to read about Joy Johnson recently passing away. I had her as a Co-Ed PE teacher many years ago in the 1970's decade. I now work with Ken Johnson at the Stanford Athletic Dept. who was also a PE teacher at Willow Glen High School during the same time I attended Willow Glen High School. I send my condolences to her family.

Joy was a wonderful neighbor and friend. She is an inspiration to the young and middle age and old! We will miss her vitality and charm in the
neighborhood. I will miss catching up with Joy on the track in the early morning hours. Westgate will never quite be the same without Joy Johnson! God Bless a great lady and God Bless your family!

I had the honor of running with Joy at races in Minnesota. She was a standout not only for her running but for her style. Running a marathon always means a bad hair day for me but Joy always ran with perfect hair, often with a ribbon or flower. She was beautiful even after 26.2 miles. Whenever I saw her (and we often ran in the same finishing time group) I would tell myself, That's who I want to be. That's what I want to do.
To Joy's family, I'm sure you're learning how many people she touched. The running community is a special community and she was a star.

Will remember you always and always. You inspired my own running when doctors said I should never run. I had you as a PE teacher intermittently at Willow Glen High. (I don't think I told my classmates you were really my neighbor.) Running was just simple - go do it, no excuses. So I listened and it stuck. Will never forget all the years of seeing you run along Westgate, along the majestic walnut trees. A wave, a smile. Miss you, Joy. Will never forget you.

Carl and I will miss you so much. You were a loving, kind Christrian lady. Thank you for all you did for Trinity Lutheran Church. You did it your way--running the marathon. The comfort we have is that you are in Heaven running to God.
