Jan was one of my very early childhood friends, from about age 3. We lived in the same building then and spent many hours playing together and having conversations about the infinitude of the universe. My memory of Jan has never faded, nor the influence that he had on my early life. There was a certain nourishment to my young soul that was provided in our early talks and hanging out together that formed my life's journey in a way that it simply would not have without. Jan was a pivotal figure for me in those formative years. His incredible intellect was matched by his simple joy of being and a light-hearted spirit. I remember us talking as children about the "never-endingness" of space, and with our open and childish minds feeling into that with awe and reverence. When I posited that it was actually black cray paper in the background, Jan laughed until tears rolled down his eyes. We haven't been in touch all these many years, but the deep sadness I feel at his passing is testimony to the impact he had on my life. I offer my deepest condolences to Jan's family and friends. Jan will always live on in my heart.

I worked with Jan at Finisar for over a year when we were building the company from it's infancy to going public. Jan was the kindest and most brilliant Scientist I have ever worked with. He was patient and always had time to help me with my recruiting efforts.
It is with deep regret that I have learned of his passing. Please accept my heart felt condolences and prayers for your family.

Respectfully,

Having been in the process of trying to reconnect with Jan, I discovered this sad news of his passing.
I was Jan's 4th, 5th, and 6th grade teacher and have only the fondest memories of the young man he was then.
I offer my deepest and most heartfelt condolences to all his family.
