I worked with Janet Gray as one of her secretaries for her two terms of 8 years. I'll never forget what a beautiful and caring women she was. My thoughts are to her family now at this difficult time.

We were sorry to learn about Janet's passing on Monday. She was a great friend to my family (Loretta Riddle, my late father Harold and late brother, Larry). Janet encouraged me to consider public service as a career when I was in High School back in the 1970's. She picked me up at our home in Campbell one morning and we spent the entire day walking precincts when she ran for mayor in 1974. Mayor Hayes, Senator Alquist and my family were wonderful mentors and encouraged me to pursue a career in public service. After surviving 31 years at the State Capitol in Sacramento, I finally retired this past December. I asked mom about looking up old friends in San Jose (especially Janet Gray). I'm so sorry for not acting sooner, but she will remain in my thoughts and prayers.

My mother, Loretta Riddle, my spouse, James Skintauy and I send our prayers to the entire Hayes family.

Janet was one of the very few ethical public servants we were honored to know.

Take care and God Bess.
