Kenneth Skala Obituary

Kenneth Skala Died Sunday, Jan. 6, 2008 in his Fremont home at age 60. He was born in Springfield, Massachusettes, the third son of Francis & Ruth Skala. An honor student and graduate of MIT, Ken was a brilliant and innovative engineer who enjoyed bicycling, skiing and the San Jose Sharks. Although his true passion was his work, he still made time for family and friends, and he will live on in our hearts forever. Ken is survived by his wife of 21 years, Vicki, daughters Stephanie and Alyssa Skala of Fremont, Lauren Sullivan of Newbury Park (from a previous marriage), son-in-law Jarrod, and grandchildren, Garrett and Lyssa Sullivan. The memorial will be held at Ruby Hills Community Center, 2900 E. Ruby Hill, Pleasanton, on Saturday, Feb 9 at 10:00 a.m. Memorial donations will go to the Stephanie and Alyssa Skala Education Fund, attending UCSD and UCI, respectively, because that above all, is his wish for his daughters.

I find it hard to believe that my cousin passed away nearly 4 years ago at the young age of 60. I remember going to his wedding in Boston about 40 years ago as a teenager...just two years apart, we were not that close, and it was too bad Ken lost contact with his Springfield family after he moved to California...dear cousin rest in peace, I know you were a genius, very driven, and a great family man...wish I had a chance to know you more....

It takes smart man to meet all the challenges Ken engaged in and succeed. He was always friendly and willing to talk. Had a great sense of adventure for a nerd. I only knew is business side. It was at this event that I got to know his family side. I like the balance.

Ken and I went to high school together. We often played pool and ping pong in my family's basement and also explored Springfield by bike and later by motor scooter. He and I attended the New York World's Fair together, an activity I will always remember. He was my best friend, and I regret not having stayed in closer touch with him through the years. Fortunately, we had an hour-long phone chat a month or so before he passed away. I miss him and offer my condolences to his family.

I only knew Ken for a very brief time, but I knew him to be a very wonderful, intelligent, and witty person. He loved his daughters dearly, and was a wonderful father. He is missed. My condolences and prayers to his family.

Ken's departure from this earth is a big loss to the ATE industry. Ken always thought out of the box, and was never afraid to voice his opinion. Ken you will be missed.

Ken was all about pressing forward and solving the problems, no matter what they were. Confident, articulate and focused, he was a great asset to all of us who worked with him. He also had a great memory for both people and projects and a concern for both.
Bye, Ken.

It was a privilege and a pleasure to get to know the jovial man that my family and I grew very fond of immediately after meeting. He will be missed.
