Lawrence William Welsh Jr
February 2, 1939 - August 23, 2016
Resident of Los Gatos
Lawrence William "Bill" Welsh, Jr. passed away at the age of 77 on August 23, 2016 surrounded by his family at Los Gatos Meadows from melanoma cancer, after a 7 year remission from the disease.
Bill was born in East McKeesport, PA on February 2, 1939 to Lawrence William Welsh, Sr. and Elna Welsh. He is the oldest of 6 siblings. He married Dorothy after a short courtship. They said it would never last, but 55 years later, they were only separated by Bill's passing.
Bill served in the Air Force and received full military honors at his burial. Bill worked for IBM for over 26 years and for Seagate another 4 years.
In his retirement, he worked part-time as a park ranger for the City of San Jose at Alum Rock Park. It was his dream job to get paid to walk in the park. Bill took every opportunity to be one with nature. Whether it was going for a long run to clear his head, or getting the family out camping as often as possible, he would always prefer to be outside.
More than anything, Bill was a family man. He loved his family with all his heart and they loved him. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Welsh; his children, Laura Welsh Litzinger (Brian) and Diana Welsh (Chris Sanders); his grandchildren, Miranda Litzinger and Rachael Litzinger; his siblings, Eileen "Lee" Mischo, Glenn Welsh, Jan Welsh, Jon Welsh, and Bruce Welsh; and countless nieces and nephews. He is pre-deceased by his nephew, Matthew Welsh and niece, Aubry Dawson Smith.
Bill's family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the caregivers at Regency of Evergreen Valley and Los Gatos Meadows and the countless doctors, nurses and others who helped take care of Bill. You are all angels.
Bill's burial was held on August 25, 2016 at Los Gatos Memorial Park. The family will be hosting an open house celebration of Bill's life on October 1 at the family home from 2-8 pm. Memorial donations can be made in Bill's name to the Alzheimer's Association or the American Cancer Society.
