Thomas Bundros Obituary

Thomas (Athanasios) John Bundros
Nov. 20, 1947 – Jan. 21, 2015
Resident of Gilroy
Tom Bundros was born in San Francisco to Mary and John Bundros in 1947. His family moved to Daly City where he was raised, graduating from Westmoor High School in 1965. During his youth, Tom was an electronics enthusiast and a Ham radio operator. Tom volunteered for the Marine Corps in 1966. While in Vietnam, he was a MARS radio operator, achieving the rank of Lance Corporal. After his honorable discharge in 1969, he moved to British Columbia, Canada where he met his wife, Tina. Tom started his family in Vancouver Island, working in forestry and as a TV/radio technician. In 1981, his growing family moved to the Bay Area, eventually settling in Gilroy. They raised their family in a rural setting; he greatly enjoyed raising sheep, growing fruit trees, and having a vegetable and flower garden. Tom began a long and successful career in Information Technology Systems Management at IBM (1981-2003), finishing his career at Hitachi and Nvidia and retiring in 2013. Tom was an very active member of St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church and taught Sunday school for over 25 years. He served 12 years as a Board Member of the Gilroy Unified School District and was a supporter of the performing arts in Gilroy. Tom was a deeply religious man and was very proud of his Greek Orthodox heritage. He possessed a great sense of humor, was extremely kind-hearted, and loved his wife and family. He loved the natural beauty of the countryside, especially the mountains of California and the Greek and Hawaiian Islands.
He is survived by his wife, Tina Bundros; his three siblings and their spouses, Greg and Teri Bundros, Parie and Blair Lambert, Chris and Shirley Bundros; his six children and their spouses, Pam Bundros, Zoe Bundros, Daphne and Wolfgang Schreier, Yani and Michelle Bundros, Andoni Bundros, Angeliki and Peter Menig; seven grandchildren, Adriann Bundros, Lucas Bundros, Marianna Bundros, Summer Bundros, Tomás Bundros, Josepha Schreier, Johanna Schreier; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.
The Trisagion will be Jan. 25, 7pm at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, 1260 Davis St, San Jose, CA 95126. The Funeral will be Jan. 26, 11am at the same location. The Burial will be on Jan. 28, 1:30pm at San Joaquin National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church Building Fund.

Tom was in my class at Westmoor HIgh in Daly City, where he excelled in wrestling (Greek, of course) and happiness. My best memory of Tom is from when we'd go body surfing with a bunch of guys at Thornton or Bean Hollow, coming out of the water ice cold and then talking and laughing while we thawed out in front of a driftwood fire. Tom was a walking ray of sunshine. Our 50th anniversary reunion is coming in September. I will miss seeing him dearly.

I was very sad to hear of Mr. bundros has passed. I returned to work at Kaiser to find a dish of Baklava and a card from the Bundros family thank you so much. I had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Mr. bundros and his family at the hospital where I work. We became friends as we learned we were both Greek and we talked about our Greek food and assorted recipes. I would bring him some homemade Greek cookies (made by some Greek Yiayia) as Ipick them up at a Greek storee which enjoyed so much. I was happy that I could brighten up his day with some Greek sweets he was so sweet and appreciative. I will miss him I sent my condolences and prayers to the Bundros family.

It's with sadness that I learned of Tom's passing. He was a great mentor. He passed the important task of ISO 9001 coordination to me and guided me to success. He will be missed.
