Although we had known Jack for only a few years, we both felt a profound loss at his passing. Jack was one of the warmest, friendliest, and most enjoyable people we have had the good fortune to know. He was also one of those rare people that seemed like a good friend from the very first minute you met him. We will always remember Jack with great fondness. Our thoughts and condolences are with Barbara and all of Jack's family.

I met Jack for the first time in 2001, when he, Loren Leavitt, and I worked on a property tax case together. Since then I have worked on several cases with him, and have always been in awe of his knowledge, expertise in handling extremely difficult appraisals, and resourcefulness in finding answers to challenging situations. He must have been an extraordinary teacher since by the end of each project I had learned much from him. Besides his stellar appraisal work, he was always professional, ethical, and focused on the right answer, not what was best for the client.
I will miss Jack's great sense of humor, twinkling eyes, and just generally great all around personality. It is our hope that Barbara and his family find some comfort in wonderful memories of Jack.

I FIRST BECAME ACQUAINTED WITH JACK IN THE LATE SIXTIES WHEN I TOOK AN APPRAISAL CLASS AND HE WAS THE INSTRUCTOR. HIS STATURE AS ONE OF THE COUNTRY'S PREEMINENT REAL ESTATE APPRAISERS GREW OVER THE YEARS. HE BECAME THE "GO TOO GUY" WHEN AN APPRAISAL WAS REQUIRED ON PROPERTY THAT DEFIED ANALYSIS FROM OBSOLETE AUTOMOBILE ASSEMBLY PLANTS TO HIGH SIERRA MOUNTAIN LAKES. JACK WAS THE EPITOME OF PROFESSIONALISM. HE HAD A GREAT SENSE OF HUMOR AND A WIDE RANGE OF INTERESTS FROM CLASSIC CARS TO GOLF.

WHEN HE MOVED TO OUR COMMUNITY IN NEVADA COUNTY HE IMMEDIATELY IMMERSED HIMSELF IN COMMUNITY ACTIVITIES AND BECAME A MEMBER OF OUR ASSESSMENT APPEALS BOARD WHERE HIS APPRAISAL EXPERTISE WAS INVALUABLE.

HIS PASSING IS A GRIEVOUS LOSS TO HIS FRIENDS, FAMILY AND ESPECIALLY HIS WONDERFUL WIFE BARBARA.

JACK AND HIS FAMILY ARE IN OUR THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS.

Jack was a wonderful person and inspired everyone he worked with.
I first met Jack when he worked in the San Mateo County Assessor's office.
Jack, Loren Leavitt and I were candidates at the same time in the American
Institute of Appraisers, and spent much time taking classes together.
Jack was a remarkable person and will be deeply missed by all, but will be
consoled with the fond memories we all have of him.
In sympathy, Al & Marian Carlson
