Wesley Murphy Obituary

With family surrounding him, Wesley J. "Pat" Murphy, 82, of Emmett, Idaho, passed away Saturday, Jan. 19, 2013.
Pat began his journey through life Feb. 15, 1930 in Crawford, Neb., to Wesley C. "Bud" Murphy and Lillian B. (Pierce) Murphy.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Thera B. "Terry" (Corbin), also from Crawford. Together they have two children, Michael G. Murphy and Tammie L. Waters (Randy); sisters, Marjy Holmgren (Pat) of Crawford, Neb. and Deljean Hilderbrand (Ralph) of Miles City, Mont.; also four grandchildren, Brian Murphy (Cynthia Fierro), Melissa Murphy, Nicholas Waters and Sarah Prough (Jerry); five great-grandchildren, Ashton, Wesley, Raemie, Lily and Gavin; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pat grew up on a farm/ranch that his dad's relatives homesteaded near Crawford in the early 1860s. He graduated from Crawford High School, where he met Terry in 1948. In September of 1950, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. After completing basic training and Airplane and Engine Mechanic School in Wichita Falls, Texas, he was assigned to Kelly Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas.
While on furlough Pat and Terry were married Aug. 7, 1951 and they went back to Texas together.
In 1952, 3,500 men were sent to Corpus Christi, TX and shipped overseas to a base in Iwakuni, Japan to take part in the Korean War. He served there in the75th Air Depot Wing, a support/overhaul wing for aircraft, overhauling B26 (Invaders). As soon as the first aircraft came off the line he was assigned to crew chief in the flight test section and then promoted to flight Engineer. In 1954, his tour of duty was up. He was shipped back to the states and discharged in Oakland, Calif.
He met Terry in Emmett where she resided. From there, they went back to Nebraska where their son, Michael, was born in Alliance in 1955. They then moved to Estes Park, Colo., where he took a job driving truck between Estes Park and Denver. In 1957 they moved to Emmett where he went to work at Boise Cascade Sawmill. In 1959 their daughter Tammie was born in Emmett. In 1979, working his way up from the green chain, he was transferred as the Sawmill Plant manager for Boise Cascade in LaGrande, Ore., until 1987. At that time, he took his 30 year retirement and moved to Meridian, Idaho.
Pat and Terry returned to Emmett in 1995. Since that time they have been able to enjoy life with family, friends and traveling.
Pat was very social, enjoyed people and liked to help anyone whenever he could. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and the overall beauty of nature. He enjoyed working with his hands. He was very mechanical, rebuilding machinery, welding and even manufacturing his own parts if needed. He loved family reunions and looked forward to each and every one of them. He was a strong man standing firm in what he believed in; especially his family, his God and his country. He was a good man.
He was Junior Warden at St. Mary's Episcopal Church for several years and took pride in his faith. In his younger years he played in a band for dances. He played many different instruments and played them all by ear. He was a member of the Masonic Butte Lodge #37 A.F. & A.M., VFW Post 4900, American Legion Post 49, 75th Air Depot Wing Association, St. Mary's Episcopal Church and Crawford Alumni.
Pat was preceded in death by his parents.
There will be no services per his request.

The coffee gang will never be same without you, Pat. Thank you for sharing part of your mornings with my dad and for making him smile. You helped bring him through his recent health issues and never gave up on him. Thank you, thank you.

P.S. My dad, Don Harrison, doesn't touch computers, but he wanted me to tell you that he misses you. He wishes you Godspeed until the two of you meet again.

They say a mans worth is not how many he has loved but how many loved him...he was dearly loved by all. His arms encircled us in good and bad times, his physical presence will be missed but his strength in us will live on...along with that darned mischievous grin...Love to the family. Thanks for making me a part of it.

My late father worked with and for Pat in the Emmett mill. Having so many ethics and morals in common, I now understand why my late father Raymond K. Nash mentioned Pat so often.
