Lucien J. Gagne, 89, of Bellingham, passed away Thursday, Jan. 31, 2013, at the Genesis Healthcare, Milford Center. He was the beloved husband for 63 years of Yvette A. (Ledoux) Gagne. Born in Woonsocket, R.I., on Sept. 13, 1923, he was the son of the late Edmond and Maria (Gregoire) Gagne. He was the loving father of Paul E. Gagne and his wife, Mary, of Sugar Land, Texas, and William F. Gagne of Bellingham. He leaves his cherished grandson, Richard Lucien Gagne and his wife, Amber, of Stafford, Texas; and great-grandsons, Trace William Gagne and Damien Christian Striker. He was the brother of the late Flora Gravel, Armand Gagne and Lillian Gagne. A longtime resident of Bellingham, he also had a home in Raymond, N.H. Mr. Gagne was the business owner of and insurance agent for Gagne Insurance Agency in Bellingham, and together Mr. and Mrs. Gagne owned and operated Gagne Pharmacy for more than 20 years. He also owned and managed several rental properties in New Hampshire. Mr. Gagne was a World War II United States Marine Corps veteran, attaining the rank of sergeant. He served in the Marine Corps Band until called to the Pacific Theater where he saw action against the enemy at Iwo Jima. Following hostilities he served with the US forces in the occupation of Japan. He was a member of the Bellingham Lions Club, LUnion St. Jean Baptiste, American Legion, a communicant of the former Assumption Church and St. Blaise Church. He was an avid gardener, enjoyed woodworking, and loved taking care of his home and family. He will be greatly missed by family, neighbors and friends. The funeral will be held Tuesday, Feb. 5, at 8 a.m., at Cartier's Funeral Home, 151 So. Main St. (Rte. 126), Bellingham, with a Mass of Christian burial at 9 a.m., at St. Blaise Church, 1158 So. Main St., Bellingham. Interment will follow with military honors in Resurrection Cemetery, Cumberland, R.I. Visiting hours are Monday, Feb. 4, from 4 to 7 p.m., at the funeral home. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
