I and thousands of my peers growing up in Detroit in the 60's idlolized Alex Karras. My fondest memories are; my high School football coach handing me a pair of his hand me down spikes. I couldn't find a pair to fit my big feet, let alone afford them. The next was sitting in the cheap seats at Olympia Stadium watching the Big Event. Rest In Peace.
Mrs. Karras, My heart goes out to you at the loss of your husband. I recently lost my husband of 47 years and I know your pain. Keeping you and your family in my prayers.
TO THE KARRAS FAMILY; IM SO SORRY THAT ALEX PASSED AWAY HE WAS MY FAVORITE ACTOR AND WITH THE LAST NAME LIKE THAT IT SOUNDS GREEK,WELL REST IN PEACE, ALEX
To Alex Karras,
You were a great job actor. When I saw on the sitcom Webster starring Emmanuel Lewis you made me laugh. My prayers go out to your wife Susan Clark. Lisa Weiner
Warm and wonderful Alex, May you rest in the arms of angels. We will always remember you. Valarie "Hawkins"Green Lori "Hawkins" Todd
I will always have fond memories of our time together
Watching a tv show that you can say was a whole family show,it was miss. May the God of all comfort be with the Family of Alex's.
My thoughts and prayers to his family and friends R.I.P. Alex!
Wow, we lost a real I-con in Alex Karras. I followed the Detroit Lions in the great days of Alex and all his defensive team mates from 1958 through the 1960's - what games. In 1961 I became engaged to my wife and took her to the Thanksgiving Day Game against the Packers. She was not impressed - but later also became a huge football fan. Used to go watch the Lion practices at Cranbrook and Alex would say hello. One great memory of him was in 1964 when I was assigned, from my job in General Motors, to work at the Buick Open in Grand Blanc and as luck would have it was assigned to Paul Krause and Alex to help make sure they got their parking places and escorted to the club house. They were both very popular and the crowds followed them everywhere. Paul was quite and reserved, but Alex had the crowd in the palm of his hands, making jokes with everyone. My copy of the Paper Lion is worn from so many readings. Those of us in Michigan have missed Alex for several years since his move to California - but he will always remain in our hearts.

Sorry to read about your lost
I remember Alex as the tv dad. I wish the family healing and peace.
In 1980, I (pregnant) watched "Jimmy B & Andre. Each time that Alex said "Andre" I was so captivated by his beautiful eyes and pronunciation of Andre. I did not have a name for this unborn child. I decided Andrea if a girl and Andre for a boy. He is a boy with beautiful loving eyes. Sure wish I could get the movie to leave to "my Andre Xavier Gonzalez". Susan- such a beautiful man. The world is going to miss him.
Growing up I loved Webster. I was saddened to hear of Mr. Karras passing. My thoughts and prayers are with his family and the many others who loved him.
Lou--I tried to phone you but ur line was disconnected. I'm so sorry to read of ur brother's death. Please contact me.
From one Hoosier to the family of another, all best wishes and prayers for "peace that passes all understanding" following the passing of Alex Karras! I've loved both Alex and Candy their entire careers and still appreciate the great work they did on the Babe Didrikson Zaharias story; as well as Alex's work in "Paper Lion," "Blazing Saddles" and "Victor/Victoria"! May God bless you and your family in this time of sorrow.
You will be deeply missed. Alex I loved you as the dad in the show Webster. To make your wife Susan know, I own three of your seasons of that great show so far on DVD. I am shocked and heartbroken to know that you had died but, I know that you are in no pain and have met the Lord in Heaven. May you guard and protect us all and know that you were great to everyone including me a fan of yours from way back when to when I was a child. I think it was great to know that you loved playing football but, it was sad knowing you got hurt too many times in that sport to cause you to suffer and to forget things. I know it was very hard for Susan and everyone else who knew you and loved you to see you not only change through out the years but, to live less years then expected. I will always love you as Alex and as George. To me you were more of a George then an Alex cause I had seen you on t.v. growing up. I pray to God that Susan and everyone will be okay.Mourning a love one and saying goodbye is never easy and for me ,I never say goodbye cause we will all meet again and it will only seem like minutes not years apart. Hugs to the Karras and Clark family.
God bless you

To the family of Mr. Karras: My deepest sympathies upon your loss with the passing of such a great man. I had the privilege of spending a few hours with him back in 1975, when I was a student member of the Boise State University Programs Board and Alex came to the campus to give a "standing-room-only" lecture that gave us a lot of insights to his life as a football star and movie actor. Yet underneath his comic facade was a genuine, down-to-earth human being, who knew how to connect to his audience. Alex, thank you for taking five BSU students out to the Bronco Hut, where we talked for several hours after the lecture and he picked up the tab! Rest in peace, you will always be number one in my book!
Dementia, which is usually referred to as Alzheimers, has often been called a cruel disease. The personality of the person afflicted just disappears. My eldest sister passed 2 years ago, at almost the exact same age as Mr Karras, after being afflicted for just over 10 years. She recognized none of her family, not even her two sons. Her death was really a blessing and I did not mourn her death. Her wonderful personality and great sense of humor had been gone a long time. I mourned her a number of years prior to her death. Those who have dealt with Alzheimer's in their relatives know of which I speak.
Sorry I have prattled on.....Alex Karras was one more helluva man. He was much more talented than he was ever given credit for but will be remembered for a long time for his football achievements....but even longer for his acting accomplishments, where far more folks identified with him. God bless you, fair Alex. Rest in peace. Elacie
Fine actor, great athelete. Warm thoughts and much love go out to Susan and the family! Rest in peace, Alex. Thank you for your gifts and for sharing them with us.

To Susan, Gary, Indiana is still trying to hang on to the seeds we've planted and are trying maintain the work ethics of your husband. As a young man, I met a football coach from Horace Mann who played high school football against Alex, and I'll never forget what he said; "He was like running into an army tank that backed over you afterwards."

Rest in Peace
To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.
Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."
It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man.
God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.
When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.
I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.
There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.
If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.
So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.
And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.
Ruth Ann Mahaffey (author)

The last time I saw you Susan was 58 years ago when you were living on Coldstream, about the second house in from Glengrove (Toronto). Barb Murray and I (Diane Ferguson) were standing on that corner talking with you when you stated that you were going to become an actress. Barb and I figured that was a fantasy dream goal. Well become an actress you did and an extremely good one. In more recent years, you and your family and I shared the same hairdresser, Debbie Muxlow in ski country. She has told me more of your general life as relayed to her. On behalf of Barb, Debbie and myself, we offer you and your family our condolences on Alex's passing from Canada.

I loved Webster as a child. Mr. Karras's character was one I admired very much. Looking at his photo here, into those kind, comforting eyes, I am brought back to a time in my life when all felt right in this little girl's world. Thanks for the warm, pleasant memories. God bless

Dear Susan and Karras Family:
My condolences to you all on the loss of Alex. While I never had the honor and privilege of meeting him, It was on my bucket list. Alex was one of the few athletes who went on to a greater career after his playing days ended. He made another name for himself in broadcasting and acting and when you saw him on the screen, you always snapped to attention. He could deliver not only comedy, but some of the most poignant moments.
From his days as an Iowa Hawkeye to those with the Detroit Lions, He played the game with a ferocity that few have.
And he enjoyed a long and loving marriage to Susan. We should all be so fortunate.
He left us with so many memorable moments that we can all cherish and recall. We are so much better for his having been with us.
My his memories embrace you for the rest of your lives.
May God's gentle peace fill your heartand comfort your soul today and
in the days to come, I am so very sorry for your loss. As you cherish
fond memories also know that God is with you and will provide peace
and hope in the days ahead.
