It was a Friday and it was Iron Bowl. Although I knew who Bru was this was the first day that we officially met. I was sitting in the middle of the bar at Paddy otooles. I had yet to earn membership in the corner club. Some big old boy asked me who I was cheering for. I said that I didn't have a dog in the fight. He said boy you in Alabama you got to be on one side or the other. I replied that in that case since I was from Louisiana and LSU had beat both teams that year that I would stick with a winner. Geaux Tigers. A few more words were exchanged I remember being very polite but as I looked over this guys shoulder I saw Bru in his LSU jersey. The gentleman that I was talking with was not very happy with my choice of words but I sensed Bru had my back so I continued to politely converse with this Alabama guy. The guy decided he had had enough and that it was time for me to be hit. Bru caught the guys hand and gently escorted him outside. When he came back in he told the bartender that he had collected the guys tab and that he would not be returning. I went an introduced my self and ask what had happened. He said hi I'm David Bru and I just asked the guy politely not to come back. I swear that is the way I remember it. David was passionate about his school but he was even more passionate about his friends. Right or wrong if you were his friend he was there for you. There was however the time that I went double or nothing on an LSU Bama game and i informed Bru that his car was part of the bet. He just looked at me and shook his head. Well that day went down as Wax on wax off as tom waxed both our cars in the paddys parking lot. I had not seen him in about 8 years and I wish that I could have said good bye. He was the older brother I never had and I loved him.
