During the 70's I truly enjoyed the "Ohio Players" and the Group brought me good times and I still buy all their music from amazon and I hope the group the "Ohio Players" gets into the Roc-n-Roll Hall of Frame in Cleveland, Ohio. In addition, I last sawed "SugarFoot" in Columbus, Ga during the Classic in 2002, a lot of people was there including Tyrone Davis, and the Ohio Players with Midnight star, gave a two fantanic shows, and I still remember that show, that show still had it going on with those Bands still sounding like the record. I've listened to and enjoyed the Ohio Players' music since 1969. Thank you for the outstanding lyrics and tight arrangements. James Brown may have been the originator of funk music, but the Ohio Players was the standard by which all other funk bands were measured. Absolutely outstanding!!! To The Bonner Family: I pray that God will encamp you with his loving arms of comfort during this time of sorrow. Just remember..Weeping May Endure For A Night, but Joy Comes In The Morning. Foot's is now at Peace and can now rest easy. When I heard of his passing, it really sadden me. It was like losing a brother in my eyesight. I had the opportunity to meet and be in Foot's presence on several ocassions and he always appeared to be laid back and had this humbleness about himself. He will truly be missed, it's still hard to believe that he's no longer among us, but his legacy still lives. We as Family, Friends and Fans must keep Sugarfoot's memories alive and keep the funk movin as he would want us to. You were one of a kind, with a heart of gold. There's no other like you around, the original is now gone. When God made you, he broke the mold. Can't help but remember the 70s when we were all touring together across the USA and throughout Europe on "Skintight", "Fire" and "Honey"..it was on our tour bus ("The Dog") that I got to know how deep of a guy "Foots" really was: especially his views and philosophies about life. In fact, there were a few very wise individuals, disguised as musicians, on that bus that helped shape the way I think about some things even to this day. Alas, I can hear Sugar singing now: "Heaven must be like this, it must be like THIS..." Rest In Peace, SugarFoot..

May you rest in Heaven "Sugarfoot"...You will truly be missed and remembered fondly. I am glad I had the opportunity to hang with you at the Gem City Music Fest and at Gilly's....I remember as a little girl listening to the Ohio Players rehearse and listening to all of the albums...Much Love to a Legend
I am a professional musican. I've been playing guitar since 1976 & professionally since 1980. "Sugarfoot" is the reason I play guitar. He provided me with hours of "guitar lessons". I had EVERY album & I learned EVERY song. I always wanted to meet him, shake his hand & say thank you. Had I never heard The Ohio Players, I would not be playing guitar. Thank you Mr. Bonner for changing my life.
Goodbye, "Sugarfoot" & May God Welcome You As A Friend.......
RIP SUGAR FOOT BONNER. I will be listening to the OHIO PLAYERS as I drive down the road. A another legend of the old school has been called home. GOD BLESS MR BONNER'S FAMILY AT THIS SAD TIME. He will be missed and remembered.
We're truly saddened to learn of "Sugarfoot's" passing. Our condolences to his family, bandmates, friends, and fans. The Ohio Players will always be a part of our playlists!
To an excellent muscian and top showman! In 1970, at 16 years old, I moved from Los Angeles to Columbus, Ohio where I was first introduced to the Ohio Players. I have been a fan ever since. Rest in peace, you will not be forgotten.

First my deepest prayers for the family. I pray Gods comfort to each of you and I pray for the privacy that you seek in this time of bereavement. We know him as Sugarfoot, but he is LeRoy Bonner to each of you.
Uncle Foots, the time I spent with you and Roger in the studio at the same time was incredible. The knowledge I gained during that time is immeasurable. I wouldn't have been able to do any of the work that I have accomplished if you guys hadn't paved the way for me. Dayton Ohio is truly the Land of Funk as Lakeside called it and the foundation for all of us was laid by you and The Players. I know right now as you enter the Heavenly Choir as soon as you open your mouth the atmosphere will change. And if anyone ask where that guy came from, I know you'll tell em' O H I O. Rest in Paradise.
You nd the rest of the band was amazing.I did not know u personally but knew ur music.May u rest in paradise nd my prayers wit the family.
R.I.H. SUGAR FOOT!!! HEAVEN WAS MISSING AN ANGEL AND NOW YOU'RE HOME!!
Ohio Players was my favorite band since grade school in the 70's. I had a privilege to see the Players play in 1994 at Miller Park in Bloomington IL. They were running a little late, so the organizers laid out the instruments and then they came. They all started tuning the instruments, and Sugarfoot brought his guitar down, and they sounded just like their albums. They hit all the classics. The baddest band I have ever heard live!!!! period. No mixing boards, or machines to clean up the music, just the tightest band ever!!!! RIP Sugarfoot
I read one of his 1990 interviews and it was so genuine and earthly. Its so sad u cant hear or listen to great music like Ecstacy, Pain, Funky Worm, Heaven Must Be Like This, Honey, etc... But at the age of 9, when I heard "Skin Tight", I thought these guys were from another planet. Growing up in Wisconsin, there's no greater funk bands than the bands from Ohio and the PLAYERS started it all with a guy named Sugar that gave it his all to keep it alive for decades and generations to come. He's very inspirational and I'm going to continue to listen to him mostly everyday because I have all of their music!!!
My thoughts and prayers go out to the Bonner family. We will miss you Sugarfoot. Thank you for all the great music!
""REST IN PARADISE"" MR LEROY"SUGARFOOT" BONNER OHIO PLAYER FOR LIFE....
Now you will be playing for the King. Make it funky. Rest in peace. Thank you for being apart of a great musical history of Dayton.

Wanted to just say I had the pleasure of meeting The Ohio Players about two years ago. They came to Milwaukee, Wisconsin for a concert on Mother's Day along with some other old school people. I surprised my mom with tickets! I have to say it was one of my mom's happiest day of her life!! She absoulely loved it!!! After the show the whole band came out to greet us and take pictures!!!! I was like what a great group talk about not having back stage passes and getting that kind of treatment! I will forever cherish that moment! And of course everyone one wanted to get to Sugarfoot!! RIP Sugarfoot

Sugar was so talented and a really good friend. He will always be remembered. My sincerest sympathy for the family.

i use to deliver newspapers in anchorage alaska on elmendorf a.f.b. in the early to mid 70's, and i had a early model cassette player stuffed in my over-the-head newspaper holder, blasting the ohio players music at 5am in sub zero temperatures. not a care in the world because i had "fire" to keep me warm as i walked my route as a kid.
i use to stand in front of the mirror at home with my double neck air guitar and pretend i was foot. i even put on one of my mom's afro wigs and pulled the left side down to cover my eye. i loved sugarfoot. i will miss him. he provided a essential part of the sound track to my life. imagine as a young boy, growing up to the ohio players music and pam grier as someone you hoped would be your girlfriend. rest in peace my brother. much love.
Thank you Sugarfoot, for all the musical memories.
Hadthe pleasure of meeting him and the group when I was in college at Wilberforce Univesity. Will treasure the albums I have forever. Thank you Sugaroot for the years of "real" music, an era of musicians who enjoyed what they did.
To the family: May your hearts be filled with wonderful memories of joyful times as you celebrate a life well lived.
In themselves the days of our years are seventy years; And if because of special mightiness they are eighty years, Yet their insistence is on trouble and hurtful things; For it must quickly pass by, and away we fly. (Psalm 90:10)
I'm glad to have provided security service for Sugar in the 80's Very nice person...RIP my friend!
As a young boy growing up in the 70's I mesmerized by the voice of Leroy Bonner and have often sing to his song trying the capture that voice. My generation was blessed to have "Sugarfoot" and the Ohio Player in our lives. To the Bonner Family may the god of all comfort bring you peace in your darkest hour.

Two of the greatest events in My Semi-professional career as a Musician was when the Band I was playing in 'The Ignition System' of Akron Ohio, opened for the 'Ohio Players' at Firestone Union hall received a great compliment from Sugar and Marshall. The other was having Duke Ellington in our audience in Harrisburg Pa. Our band learned a lot from the Players as they stayed in Akron for awhile putting together one of their Greatest hits. Especially Thankful for Suger because of My appreciation for the Guitar. Rest in Glory My Brother with our Musical ancestors.
RIP SUGARFOOT i saw you in concert in sandiego and i had a ball you were still the life of the party, thank you for all the years you let me dance to your songs, you will be missed
and so sorry to the family for you precious loss god loves him so much he wanted him home wow so cool
I was blessed as a youngster to have come up when music was something to behold and the Ohio Players were part of that era when music was music. "Skin Tight" is still some of my favorite music. I also got to see Sugarfoot and his Ohio Players at Bayfest here in Mobile in October,2011 and they put on a good show singing the old songs and grooving they were phenomenal. I got truly interested in them again when TV One did their Unsung series and featured them again. Made me remember all the old music and all which led me to get to Bayfest and so glad I did. Sugarfoot in my opinion was a musical genius who truly made music happen and his legacy lives on in the hearts of his fans. May he rest in peace and hope his family is comforted in knowing that his life was NOT in vain. RIP Sugarfoot.
Sweet! They blew MUH mind. This is music. Sweet sticky thing. R.I.P. "Sugarfoot", and all musicians that went home.

Grief can be so hard, but our special memories help us cope. Remembering you and your loved one today and always.
To the Bonner family: My deepest sympathy-- Sugarfoot will always be remembered as the originator of the Dayton guitar sound and style which has been copied by many recording guitarists not only in Dayton, Ohio, but all over the world. The sweet sound of his raw funk picking riffs sliding into smooth jazz backing chords was his unmistakable trademark. He was a humble guy who was never too "big" or too busy to sit in for a song at a local club. He will be missed. Delbert Jones--guitarist for Dayton's Emeralds, Record Player, Cypress, Stone Coal White, Act5, and NKey Productions.
My brothers, sisters, and many cousins thank you for the many sweet childhood memories given to us by the music your group gave us. RIP..You will be missed.
I love to brag on my homeboys down here everytime the dj throws my Dayton funk bands in the mix. I'm so proud to have experienced all u guys in my growing up in Dayton. And I mean I brag. U were always a fashion statement, dressed to the nines. Can't wait to see what u do with ur wings. Hold it down Sugar.
Fortunately, I was able to see him perform within the last two years. He still sounded just as great as ever. The Ohio Players were is my alltime favorite group. Sugarfoot will always be remembered. RIP.

I can recall seeing Sugar tipping thru the Oregon District checking out the different groups. Everybody know him and he would talk to anyone who approached him. And going back in the day he was always the coolest person in the room. He had a way of jive talking with his signature growl and was able to transfer that into his music.
He is the one person we will all miss and my prayers go out to the family, friends and his millions of fans.
Carry on suger foot, now u r on a real love roller coaster in the heavens .May God bless your family.

To the family; your loved one was/is loved by so many. We embraced him as our own. His music was so transforming. I can recall listening to his music on a transister radio in 1971 when the song "Pain" came out and the music was a cross between James Brown horns, Duke Ellington, Dizzy Gillespie, Ramsey Lewis with a big dose of pure funk. He truly was a musical genius. A big part of him will always remain with us. God bless you.

To the Bonner Family, Leroy "Sugarfoot" Bonner will sorely be missed. I had the pleasure of meeting him a few years ago through a friend of mine, Cordell "Boggie" Mosson of P-Funk while The Ohio Players were playing here in Atlanta. Sugarfoot had a presence about him that was peaceful, loving, kind and gentle. He was genuine. Recovering from a MS flareup, and walking with a cane, He treated me so kindly, made room for me to sit on the stage and nick-named me Angel. He never met me before that night. How special that was, a night and a spirit I will never forget! Rest solider, you have blessed us with a lifetime of wonderful music. You honored your gift and were obedient to share it with the world. Earth has lost a real treasure. Gone but will never be forgotten. May the arms of God hold you close during this time of grief. God bless and keep you all. Thank you for sharing your loved one with the world.
