My family and I were introduced to Johnny after Johnny and his family moved to Farmington. I really enjoyed becoming good friends with Johnny, Teresa, the grandmas, and the kids. Johnny and Teresa treated us just like family. My wife made Johnny a birthday cake for his 40th birthday. Johnny and I had lots of great times together. We prayed together, laughed together and shed a few tears together, and enjoyed the countless hours that he would spend with me showing me the scrapbooks of his incredible boxing career. The biggest joy I had was training with Johnny. I needed to drop a few pounds and asked him if he would train me and get me into boxing shape. It was so much fun having Johnny teach me how to hit the bags, jump rope, hitting the mitts, and teaching me the strategy that made him a world champion five times over. Its not every day that you get trained by a five time world champion. When Johnny and his family moved back to Albuquerque he changed his phone number and I lost contact with him. My family and I were so sad to hear that Johnny passed on. Johnny loved the Lord in a big, big way. I know one thing for sure Johnny is heaven chewing on a straw wearing another championship belt that his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ gave him when he got there. We continue to keep Teresa and the family our prayers.
Miss you Champ.
