HILDA GREENFIELD Obituary

HILDA "KITTY" SARJA GREENFIELD
Hilda "Kitty" Sarja Greenfield left this earth and entered into heaven on Friday, July 4, 2014. She passed away at the age of 90 in her Bullhead City, Ariz. home due to natural causes. Kitty was born January 16, 1924 in Worcester, Mass. to Klaus and Aleksandra Sarja. She had four older brothers, Onni (Hank), Arne, Arthur, Andrew, and one younger sister, Bertha.
Kitty was raised in Worcester, and graduated from Commerce High School at the age of 18. She worked in a Finnish restaurant and later sewed parachutes for the war effort during WW ll. She was fluent in the Finnish language, was self taught in others, but loved them all.
Kitty attended Sunday school during her childhood and was awarded a perfect attendance pin which she wore with great pride. As a young woman on the East Coast she and her friends spent many Saturday nights out dancing, and was even referred to as the "Dancing Queen" by her childhood friend Helen.
In 1945 Kitty met Charles H. Greenfield Sr. and the two were married on June 25th of that same year, in Scranton, Pa. Kitty and Charles carried on the passion of dancing throughout much of their 63 years of a loving and devoted marriage. She was the wife of a Marine in the early part of their marriage, and later on work had them relocating throughout the U.S. Though they owned various business's, their sporting goods store in Alpine, Wyo. was Kitty's favorite.
In January 2014 her family came together in honor of her 90th birthday and as she stood before the crowd of over 80 guests she recited all the prepositions in alphabetical order, which she learned as a child.
Her memberships included the Eastern Star, The Congregational Church, and Seventh-Day Adventist Church. She was very patriotic and attended many of the surrounding area events honoring every branch of the military. She had a charitable heart and donated to various organizations throughout Mohave County. Kitty was an avid reader, especially enjoying her daily paper, and could always be counted on for knowing the current events. She enjoyed all word games, the performances put on by the Colorado River Concert Assoc., as well as ending her day with a good Turner Classic Movie.
Kitty was preceded in death by her husband Charles Greenfield who passed May 9, 2008, four grandsons, and one son-in-law.
She is survived by her seven children, six daughters and one son, Sheila Ruffolo of Cherry Valley, Calif., Laura and Dennis Murry of Cheyenne, Wyo., Gail and Greg Montgomery of Aguanga, Calif., Pam and Dennis Haderlie of Thayne, Wyo., Dawn and Jerry Gaffney of Bullhead City, Ariz., Sharlene Welch of Golden Valley, Ariz. and Charlie and Robin Greenfield Jr. of Tonapah, Ariz; 16 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren, all who knew her as Nana, many nieces, nephews and cousins from all over the world, and a life long friend Helen Maki of Boynton, Fla.
Kitty chose to be cremated, and she will be laid to rest with her husband at Desert Lawn Cemetery.
Family and friends will join together in a celebration of Kitty's life at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 11, 2014, at Desert Lawn Funeral Home, 9250 S. Ranchero Lane, Mohave Valley, Ariz. to honor this remarkable life of a woman who loved her family with a passion, and had a great sense of humor. She was the cornerstone of a family that cherished her, and marveled at her every strength.

Thank you Mother for everything you taught us. We will continue to follow your practical ways of living, while remembering your wonderful words of wisdom today and always.

Your light was brilliant,
outshining a billion others,
Yet, you did not think less of them - instead,
you inspired them to shine brighter for themselves.

Your memories will shine within us forever!
