Meadow McCloskey Young Obituary

LOS ANGELES, CA – Meadow Young, a recent resident of Los Angeles, was born in Monterey, California, the daughter of Stephen Daniel McCloskey and Dianne Jametta Lyle. She spent most of her life on the Monterey Peninsula, sharing the busy, multi-generational family home in Pacific Grove. Meadow attended Robert Down Elementary School, Pacific Grove Middle School, Monterey High School and Cypress Community School, graduating in 1987 from Seaside High. Meadow joined the U.S. Air Force after high school and did her basic training at Lachlan Air Force Base, in Texas.
Fifteen-year-old Meadow met the love of her life, 17-year-old Raymond "Teddy" Young, at the Old Carousel on Cannery Row. Soul-mates, "Ski" and Teddy immediately bonded. They were married in 1988 and recently celebrated their 25th anniversary.
Shortly after marriage, the couple was stationed at Keesler Air Force Base, in Biloxi, Mississippi. Meadow trained and served as a surgical technician. After completing her tour of duty, the couple moved back to the Monterey Peninsula where Meadow was recruited by CHOMP, the hospital where she was born. The couple returned from Biloxi with their infant daughter, Renee Marchelle. A few years later, their son, Trey Alexander was born. They spent most of their family years, thriving in the extended-family compound, "Big Pink on 17th Street."
Meadow was widely respected in her field, often requested by surgeons, as their preferred surgical assistant. Following her passionate and fierce sense of justice, Meadow was an advocate for patient care and rights. She was considering pursuing an RN degree, specializing in patient advocacy. Meadow left the medical field after experiencing failing eye sight and receiving a diagnosis of the degenerative eye disease, keratoconus.
Meadow received subsequent diagnoses of Sjogren's Syndrome (an auto-immune disease) and congestive heart failure. She faced her declining health with courage and grace. She helped to provide more public awareness and understanding for some of the less well-known diseases and for those suffering from mental and pyschological disorders. Meadow was an advocate for understanding and acceptance of racial, gender and class differences. She had a huge heart; compassionate, loving and intuitive.
Family was her center; she brought together distant aunts, uncles cousins, nieces, nephews and dear friends with her love. Meadow provided connection and a community for so many. She was happily anticipating becoming a first-time grandmother. Meadow very recently returned home to Pacific Grove to visit with family and friends.
Meadow is survived by her husband, Raymond "Teddy" Young; her beloved children: daughter, Renee Marchelle Flanders (Carlos) and her son, Trey Alexander; her dearest sister, Syeda Moppert and brother, Stephen Michael McCloskey and nephew, Miles Moore VI. Her huge extended family includes aunts, Yolanda Green, Janet Lyle, Denise Lyle, Janice Hornbeak-Lyle, Kathrin Moppert, Cynthia Johnson and Carolina Shea; uncles, Michael (Judy) McCloskey, Richard (Susan) McCloskey, Keith (Regina) Lyle, Uncle Frank Quilantang, and numerous much-loved cousins, nieces and nephews. She dearly loved her mother-in-law, Patsy Young; father-in-law, Raymond Young and brother-in-law, DaVonn Young. Meadow left many treasured friends, including special sister-friend, Joanne Sherill. Meadow is also survived by her mother, Dianne Lyle; her step-father, Peter Moppert and grandmother, Yolanda Shea.
Meadow was pre-deceased by her father, Stephen McCloskey and her brother, Kheffren Moppert.
A Celebration of Life has been planned for Saturday, August 3, 2013 at 2:00pm. It will be held at the Pacific Grove Community Center, 515 Junipero Avenue. All are welcome and we ask that you bring something to share; laughter, memories, food, photos, hugs, music, dancing and love, for a light dimmed far too soon. In lieu of flowers, may we suggest donations to your favorite charity, the Sjogren's Syndrome Foundation, the American Heart Association or the National Keratoconus Foundation. Harambe (Let's Pull Together).

We have grown together from girls to ladies to women, sharing scared moments that only could be said to each other…what a deep respect and admiration that I have for you. I don't know how I found someone so special and encouraging to be so close to me. How do you describe a woman so beautiful and selfless, that knows you and loves you regardless…my friend so deeply treasured in my heart. I love you and will ALWAYS miss you.

Meadow Starchild put here on earth to teach us of love. Love is to find a need and fill it. Meadow did this so well. For reason we do not understand, Creator needed Meadow more than us here on earth. As we will miss her dearly, she will send us a beautiful message from the heavens when we see the sunset, see a rainbow, when we perform an act of kindness....we can feel her presents, Blessings & Blissing.

Thinking of all the time we spent taking our girls to games, Stanford Basketball Camp and of course the candy fundraising. Your charm and sense of humor always made it enjoyable. My prayers and healing thoughts are with your family. Tomorrow we celebrate your life.

Meadow, I remember you from PGMS,so long ago. Funny, I remember your sweater vests that were the height of fashion in the 80's. In recent years I have become acquainted with your mother and your daughter and I could see the strong family bond you had. Your daughter is an amazing person and I truly believe that children learn from their examples. Clearly you were a shining example of how to be a good person, how to be strong and independent, and also how to be warm and loving. Peace.

Before I actually moved to PG, my mother came ahead so she could get Jazzmyn to start first grade at Robert Down. I remember mom telling me about the nicest person named Meadow, who introduced herself and after talking awhile gave my mother her phone number, and told her to be sure to give it to me in case I needed a friend. This sweet gesture from an equally sweet lady truly touched my mother, and as a result, Meadow was that first friend to me.

Meadow and Teddy were the first to offer help when it came to moving the heavy furniture. She was there to sit next to me when Renee and Jazzmyn performed at the RHD "Ottertorium". She welcomed us to family birthday celebrations held at Caledonia Park. She was just such a wonderful and bright spirit.

I believe as Meadow entered into her new home in Heaven, my mother was there to re-introduced herself and is making her feel welcomed and loved just like Meadow did way back so many years ago.

Rest in Peace dear Meadow. Know you have left a void in so many hearts, but the memories of you are so very cherished.

Love, Marcia, Jazzmyn & Conyal
