My thoughts were with you yesterday Lisa.

I met Monte in the fall of 1973. We were pledge brothers in Sigma Phi Epsilon, and I had the good fortune to be roommates with him part of my freshman year. He was a good friend, always having a positive attitude, People loved kidding him about his matching slippers and bathrobe, he was always sharply dressed.

Shocked and saddened when I learned of your passing, but uplifted by being able to call you friend. Good thoughts to your family today, 9-11-2016

I only learned recently about Monty and want to express my deepest though so belated condolences to his family. Although a Manhattan native, I met him in the early 1980s with fellow trader friends while living in Chicago. What stands out most in my memory is his humor, manners, and intelligence.

Monte was a fraternity brother of my husband, Bob Joyce. I only met him once on Memorial Day Weekend 1983. And boy was it memorable! We had gathered a random group of people, none of whom knew each other, to meet at a bar where Ramsey Lewis was playing. Somehow, a bunch of the guys decided to hire Ramsey to come play a party in Lincoln. Business cards were exchanged. I know, because Bob still has the card that says Montgomery Hord, Since 1955. It is his favorite business card ever. At any rate, we ended up back at Monte's apartment and for some unknown reason, people were dropping drinks out the window. The next day, very hungover, we met Monte for lunch. He had been to work and acted like he had had a full night's sleep. He was just one of those charsmatic people that you never forget.
