Even though I never got to meet Billy Wayne, I appreciated his sense of humor and his openness. He will be missed.

The world has lost a truly wonderful person. Friend, father, husband, grandfather, he wore all hats with equal grace and love. You will always be in our thoughts and carried in our hearts with utmost love and affection. I thank you Billy Wayne for all you taught me, and for accepting myself and my boys into your family. The love you showed us and allowed us to be a part of will always be my fondest memory of you.

My name is Gerald B. Smith I am also a Navy veteran. During my travels in the Navy I encountered at new duty stations where there had been another Gerald Smith that had transferred out just a few years ahead of me. It would be interesting to know if Gerald was ever stationed at the Naval Construction Battalion Center in Gulfport Ms. or any of the CB Battalions homeported there. Although I never met him. I think your relative may be the fellow I followed throughout my career. My email is ddgvet4@gmail.com If you would like to respond. I am sorry for your loss and thank your family for it's service to our nation.
Yours truly,
Gerald B. Smith PC2 USN (1978-1988)
