Jack was my roommate in college, just learned of his passing over 4 years later. He was a dear friend and I will never forget those crazy college days.

Jack was the only person with whom I both started and finished high school because we skipped the 11th grade. I saw him every few years either when he visited his parents in Russellville or when I met him in Montgomery. The last time I saw him was at our 50th high school reunion which was held in my back garden 10 years ago in Russellville. After that, I called him a few times and we exchanged emails for a while.
I had been thinking about him lately and told my husband that I needed to try to call him. I was not aware that he was ill. Tonight on Italy's Amalfi Coast, I told my childhood friend who is traveling with me that I wanted to try to contact him when we return home but that I wasn't sure if he still had a land line phone. When she searched for him on Google, we were shocked to find his obituary.
I am so sorry that I did not know of his death and certainly would have attended his burial in our local cemetery had I known. I loved Jack!

Jack was one of the friendliest and most helpful people to me when I came to the Alabama Historical Commission in the mid-1990s. We shared a love of dogs, history and historic preservation. He was a unique and truly wonderful person. My condolences to his family.

I am just learning of Jack's passing. I had lost touch with him after his retirement, and am saddened by this news. I remember him as a lovable character, who was always helpful. I also remember his love of his Boston Terriers and genealogy. He helped organize many of the wonderful Pilgrimages of Historic Homes throughout Alabama back "in the day," when that tradition was in his heyday. Jack was a unique, one of kind person. He always had a tinkle in his eye; I miss the joy of him, and am sure there were many people like me throughout the state who worked with him in efforts to preserve and present historic homes that would have liked an opportunity to celebrate his life - if we had only known. How easy it is to lose touch with old friends.

Jack was such an interesting person and enjoyed his family so much, what little family he had left. He will be missed.
