Florence Eva Geisinger Florence Eva Graber Geisinger died on May 3 2013 at the age of ninety-two. She was born February 7, 1921 in Philadelphia, Pa. Her father, Frances, worked for the US Dept. of Treasury most of his life. Her mother died when she was a child. She was an only child. She grew up living with her paternal grandparents, Frank and Katie, in Philadelphia as her father was based in Pittsburgh. She graduated from high school at age 15 as she skipped both 6th & 8th grade. She loved school except for the fact that they made her write right-handed even though she was left-handed. She majored in American History and English, and graduated from Kutztown State in Pennsylvania, graduating second in her class. Florence played tennis and field hockey. She met Karl Geisinger in college. They married by eloping in 1943 before Karl was shipped out to England for World War II. They were married for fifty-six years when Karl died in 1999. Karl Geisinger was an industrial psychologist who was the Chairman of the Psychology and Sociology departments for over twenty years at Drexel. They had three sons: Kim (Rita), Kurt (Janet), and Karl Jr. (Donna). She also had three grandchildren: Erik (28), Kristen (27) and Brian (23). Florence was also an educator. She started teaching English and History at Hatboro High School. She received her Master's Degree in Library Sciences from Drexel University. She briefly taught and worked in the Library at Beaver College. Then, she went to work for the Springfield Township school system. She created a library in virtually every elementary school in the Springfield public schools. Florence was also very active in their small church, Grace Lutheran in Wyndmoor. She wrote the church bulletin for nearly twenty years, supplied flowers for the church and also worked as the church treasurer. Karl and Florence retired in 1985. They continued to exercise and do many church activities. They also traveled a bit, mostly to visit family and to Florida. Throughout her life, one of Florence's favorite activities was taking long (as in several hours) walks. They enjoyed watching sports especially basketball and baseball. She has two living younger cousins, Flossie and Carol. Both have homes in NJ. Florence's last years were spent in Winston-Salem, N.C. A service will be held at Grace Lutheran Church in Wyndmoor, Pa. on Wednesday May 15th at 9am. Visitations for family and friends will be held one hour prior to the service 8am. Florence will be laid to rest at the Hillside Cemetery in Glenside, Pa. next to her husband. In lieu of flowers the sons are requesting donations be sent to the above named church 801 E. Willow Grove Ave. Wyndmoor PA 19038 in memory of Florence Geisinger. Arrangements by the Craft Funeral Home, Erdenheim, Pa.

Floss was a wonderful friend and mentor to me. She and Karl opened their home and hearts to us. I'm so sorry that I was unable to attend the funeral. Flossie will always have a special place in my heart.

Since she was my "elder", I always called her Mrs. Geisinger when I worked with her at Beaver College in the 60s. She was a lovely lady, and I hope that the memory of the special person that she was comforts you as you mourn her loss.
