Mary Saurman Mary Saurman, daughter of William and Martha Ewen, loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed on peacefully at Fort Washington Estates about 8:45 A.M. on Sunday, September 30. She is survived by her husband, George, and four married children, Nancy Ruane (Jim), Richard (Jane), George W. (Carla), and Robert (Priscilla Jane). She has eight grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and a younger sister, Nancy Leard. Mary was born in Woodbury, New Jersey on November 11, 1927. She graduated from Pemberton High School and later from Ursinus College, Class of 1949. It was at Ursinus College that she met her husband to be. The two were married in 1950 and set up housekeeping in Pottstown where she immediately became active in the community, serving on the board of the YWCA, Searles Methodist Church and Parent Teachers Association. She was employed at the Insurance Company North America and was also the Office Manager of the Norristown Branch of Levengood Dairies. The family moved to Ambler in 1962 where Mary continued her service to the community. She was very active in Calvary United Methodist Church where she taught a Sunday School class and was a stalwart member of United Methodist Women. She served as Republican Committee Woman for nearly three decades in Ambler's Third Ward and became a tradition at the polls on election days. She organized and operated a transportation service for area cancer patients for over twenty years for which she was honored by the American Cancer Society. Mary also was an Avon representative for more than thirty years, winning many awards for her efforts. Mary will be remembered best by her compassionate and loving disposition which was characterized by a contagious, reassuring smile and will be greatly missed by her family and many, many friends. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Sheaf-Myers. A memorial service will be held at Calvary United Methodist Church located at 16 E. Park Avenue, Ambler PA 19002 with an opportunity to meet with the family beginning at ten o'clock on Saturday morning, Oct. 13, followed by the service at 11 A.M. Another memorial service will be held at Fort Washington Estates (735 Susquehanna Rd., Fort Washington) on Wednesday, October 10 at 10:30 A.M. . In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Calvary United Methodist Church at above address or the George E. Saurman Campus, Ambler Adult Activity Center, a Division of Montco SAAC at 14 Forest Avenue, Ambler.
