John BRAY Obituary

Published by Monteal Gazette on Jan. 2, 2016.
BRAY, John Charles
It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Dr. John Bray on December 30, 2015, in Beaconsfield. The son of Charles Bray and Margaret Danaher, Dr. Bray was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He leaves behind his wife Cindy (née Moxam); his children Mandy (Patrick), Trevor (Alison) and Catherine; and his grandchildren Jacob, Dorothy-Grace, Logan, Zachary and Lucas. Predeceased by his sister Elaine (Tom), Dr. Bray also leaves behind his niece Jennifer (Robert) and nephew Richard (Katherine). He will be greatly missed by extended family, friends and colleagues. He was a gentle man who loved to share stories and jokes, and had a passion for the Beatles and the Canadiens. Dr. Bray, a proud graduate of the McGill Faculty of Medicine and member of the Royal College, will forever be connected to his community through the patients he cared for and the children he delivered at the Lakeshore General Hospital over the last 39 years. Visitation at Collins Clarke MacGillivray White Funeral Home, 222 Autoroute 20, Pointe-Claire on Friday, January 8 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Funeral Service to be held at Cedar Park United Church, 204 Lakeview Avenue, Pointe-Claire, January 9 at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Heart & Stroke Foundation or a charity of your choice would be appreciated.

So sad to hear about Dr. Bray's passing. He delivered my daughter in 1983 after 2 sections. He allowed me to go into labor naturally providing the baby is ok. I eventually had another C section but it was really grand as he stood there with me in the room monitoring the progress to allow for this. Just so giving of himself. He has been my trusted friend and medical professional since that time. I felt secure and in good hands with my health and he supported me in making the choices that where important for me. I thank him from the bottom of my heart for always being there for me. He demonstrated such patience, kindness, love and simplicity in all our encounters. He always greeted me as if "oh so nice to see you" I felt honoured and taken care of. May I express all my sympathy to those close to him and all of those who have known him. I am deeply grateful for our encounters and say good by for now. Until we meet again in the light !

Thinking of Dr. Bray, Cindy, his family and Julie...
For spending about 10 minutes with someone, once a year, and have his loss have such an impact? What a special person he was. Maybe he is listening each Saturday morning , and still creating culinary delights for his newest friends in Heaven. We proudly and with heavy hearts say, Dr Bray will always be our number one fan, as we are of his. We miss you and thank you.

A year gone by and it still feels so fresh. I hope Cindy and the children, as well as Julie, are finding their ways without such a lovely person.
I miss Dr Bray for his care and compassion, his dry humour, and his dedication. This marks a year that I've been trying to get to the bottom of some health issues, and I know he would have taken care of everything in a fraction of this time. He was a godsend to my mom, going far beyond his scope as an OB/GYN to ascertain her diagnosis of dementia. She was the only person she trusted. He was so good to her and posted her poem she wrote for him on his waiting room wall. He is so missed because he was so much more than a doctor...he was our friend.

My sincere condolences to the Bray family. I will miss Dr. Bray tremendously. I have many memories of how he helped my mother and my family cope with life changing news. Always offering a kind word. I have many fond memories of Dr.Bray delivering all five of my children, he even helped me name my first born son when I was considering two names , he (Dr. Bray) held my son up right after delivery and asked me what his name was. I told him the two names I was considering, he looked at my son and said, "he looks like a Shaun" and so Shaun it is! Dr. Bray was the only doctor that I truly trusted and looked to for guidance. There will be no other like him. May He Rest In Peace.

I was looking forward to booking my annual check up with Dr. Bray but then learned of his sudden death today. He followed me through my first pregnancy and was absolutely fantastic. I loved his warm, kind, funny, and reassuring manners, which instilled great trust. I saw him last April, and was hoping to ask about how his trip to Boston went. He was very excited about it back then and I remember him telling me about the history of the city. I'm so very saddened to hear of his loss. All our love and thoughts go out to his family. Thank you Dr. Bray for all your care and kindness. You will be missed.

Dear Cindy and family,
I still get choked up when I think of your wonderful husband. I realize now that I began seeing him near the start of his practice and I have held a soft spot for him ever since he delivered our two children. Every time I saw him over the years he made me feel important and showed total interest in how my life was going. He always asked about Alison and Andrew on top of looking after why I was there for an appointment. From the pictures on his walls, he loved his family and he talked so proudly of them all.
Cindy, I hope you and the family are coping ok. I know how devastated you must feel. My heart goes out to you all.
All the best, Cathy Bredt (White)

Just learned that Dr. Bray had passed when I was trying to make my annual appointment! I was so saddened but now reliving the many memories I have...like when I was overdue with my second child. Dr. Bray kidded, saying that the baby better not come on Thursday night because he'll be at the Jesus Christ Superstar performance at Place des Arts. "I'm going too!" I exclaimed. "So you may hear me calling you from the balcony!," I warned. Well I went and though it was a loud performance...my daughter obliged and was born the next day! My condolence to Julie and the family.

Cindy, members of the family and Julie, my deepest condolences on your loss. It was with great sadness that I found out, only last night, of John's passing. For the past 34 years, Dr. Bray was my physician; he showed compassion, knowledge, was always available to answer any questions and give sound advice. Reading the other comments on this site, I am struck by the truly unique relationship he had with each of us, his patients and the memories we will have of him. What a gift it has been to be able to count on you for all of those years. John, I will miss you and want to thank you for being there.

Overwhelmed with sadness of Dr.Bray's passing. As everyone is aware how professional, compassionate and a true gentlemen he was to his patients. A husband, father and grandfather and friend... we have all lost a great man. A legend now. One to be missed and never forgotten. I have never felt such sadness over the passing of a professional. Cindy and family,
My deepest sympathies for your loss. I have an incredible amount of respect and gratitude for Dr. Bray and the care that he gave me during the time that I was one of his patients, especially through my pregnancies which were not without complications. Although I moved from the area almost 20 years ago, I never again encountered a physician who was as caring and concerned with his patients as Dr. Bray had been. Cindy, over the years, I have often recounted how you and Dr. Bray played a part in the naming of one of my sons. We were down to two names at the time of delivery and my husband and I had opposite favorites. Our son Trevor has always been very thankful for your votes that day.
Thinking of you and your family at this difficult time.

To the Bray family and to Julie: Please accept my deepest sympathies. Dr Bray has been my doctor since the beginning of his practice in Pointe Claire.

I was in my early 20's and a bit nervous with the older Dr. Linkletter. After my first appointment with Dr. Bray, my sister asked me how Dr. Old Man was, and I said no, no, it was a new doctor, Dr. Gorgeous! For over 30 years I have been very grateful for Dr. Bray's excellent care. (and my sister in Toronto still asks about Dr. Gorgeous!)

Dr. Bray was a fantastic doctor and a wonderful and gentle man. I will miss our chats about the Beatles, our Beatle card collections, and I fondly remember him drawing on my chart a diagram of the Bell Centre showing me where he sat during the Paul McCartney Concert and wanting to know where I sat!

May you find much comfort in knowing that he was loved and respected by so many of his patients.

To Cindy, Catherine & the entire Bray family & of course to Julie.
I am so shocked & saddened to hear of the news that Dr. Bray had passed away! He was my doctor for over 27 years. He took care of my health throughout the years, delivering my two children in the early 90's. He always remembered their names & never failed to asked how they were doing. Catherine was born just a few weeks before my son & we laughed at many of the same experiences we each shared during that time. Dr Bray was a load of laughs yet very caring. I will always remember fondly those waiting room photos he had on the walls of Williamsburg. We as his patients have lost a truly remarkable & compassionate doctor. One of a kind!

I will never forget him. What a tremendous loss to his family. My thoughts and prayers are with you. Heaven is lucky to have him and Dr. Linkletter, whose patients Dr. Bray extended the same care. I having been one of those fortunate patients.

Cindy and family, and Julie:
I am so deeply sorry for your loss. If we as his long time patients are feeling such grief, I can hardly imagine what you are living right now.
Dr Bray has been my doctor for over 30 years -- since I was 12 -- and my mom saw him before that (after he took over from Dr Bourne until her death 3 years ago). He went above and beyond, always. He was a friend to our family and was instrumental in getting my mother diagnosed with dementia...he was the only doctor she trusted at that point and he always made time for her. Compassionate, funny, expert in his field, and kind, they truly don't make docs like him anymore. I will miss him not only as my trusted doctor, but as a wonderful human being. We all share your heartbreak.
Tara xoxo

I not only extend my deepest sympathies to Dr. Bray's loving family and kin, but also to the West Island women who lost the care of a devoted, trusted and kind-hearted physician. He will so very sorely be missed.

Extremely sad of the loss of such a fantastic doctor and person. May you rest in peace, dear Dr. Bray. Thank you for having been such a great doctor to me for 30 years
