Donna Rae (Thompson) Penton, 86, died peacefully on November 9, 2017 surrounded by her family.
She will be loved and cherished for eternity by her husband of 57 years John, seven children, fourteen grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren, and the Penton, Kovach and Leimbach families along with friends close and afar.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Oscar and Gertrude Thompson, husband Robert Hochenedel, sisters Doris Conway and Dolores (Tommie) Held, son Brad Hochenedel and granddaughter Allison Armstrong.
She is survived by loving children Tom (Julie) of Eugene, Oregon, Jeff (Marianne) of Amherst, Laura Hochenedel Reid (Rodger) of Birmingham, Jack (Gigi) of Amherst, Barb Hochenedel Penton of Amherst, and Tim (Jay) of Lakewood.
Donna was born in Elyria on February 26, 1931, and graduated from Elyria High in 1949. She was a proud member of The Elyria High Satans girls club-which later became her cherished card club girlfriends. She played the snare drum in the EHS Marching Band. She married Robert in 1950 and started her family in Elyria. After losing him in 1959, she married John in 1960 and spent the remainder of her life in Amherst.
Her greatest joy was her family-her husband, children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, in-laws, nieces and nephews whom she encouraged and whose happiness she celebrated. She took great pride in making her home a beautiful and welcoming place for her family, friends and extended family.
A long-time member of Amherst Congregational Church, she was an avid gardener, enthusiastic lawn mower, and accomplished seamstress and needle worker. With her beloved quilting circle, she made many spectacular quilts, some of which were given to the families of those lost in military service. Donna will also be remembered as the better half of the partnership with husband John in the Penton motorcycle story.
Family will welcome guests at Avon Lake United Church of Christ, 32801 Electric Blvd, Avon Lake, on Saturday, November 18, starting at 12:30, followed by a Celebration of Life service at 1:30.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Amherst Congregational UCC, American Cancer Society, or the Lorain County Alzheimer's Association.

To John Penton and family!
I used to work for Mr. Penton at Penton Imports, and remember Ms. Donna very well. She was the kindest, most sincere lady I had ever met.
May you find peace in the memories of your beautiful life together!
