Geneva Pearce Obituary

Geneva F. Pearce, 80 of rural Oswego, entered her eternal rest on June 5, 2015 at 12:20 a.m. from the Oswego City Hospital after an extended illness. She was born to Walter and Rosa (Baunhofer) Miller in Southern Labette County on November 3, 1934. She attended rural grade schools in Labette County, graduating from Labette County Community High School in 1952. After high school, she worked for Hallmark Cards in Parsons and then for Sears and Roebuck, retiring after 5 years of service.
She married Leon Pearce on November 24, 1957. They made their home in rural Oswego and celebrated their 57th wedding anniversary November 24, 2014. After her children were all in school, she worked at the Oswego City Hospital as a cook. She later moved into a billing clerk position. She retired from Mercy Maude Norton Hospital. Geneva was a member of Gideon's Auxiliary, and the (ABW) American Baptist Woman Missions. Her favorite hobbies included cooking, reading and spending time with her family.  
Her husband Leon survives of the home. Other survivors include one daughter, Diane Heflin and husband Tom of Oswego, one son Rodney Pearce and wife Teri of Mound Valley, 5 grandchildren, Tim Heflin and wife Alyson of Oswego, David Heflin and wife Missy of Carl Junction, MO, Matthew Heflin and wife Becca of Pittsburg, Nathan Pearce and wife Kyla of Ellinwood, KS, and Hannah Pearce of Mound Valley and 6 great grandchildren. Also surviving is one sister, Darlene Hellwig of Oswego. She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, and one sister.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, June 8, 2015 at the Labette Baptist Church. Pastor Tom Heflin will officiate. Burial will follow in the Oswego Cemetery. Family will receive friends Sunday afternoon from 2:00-4:00 p.m. at Derfelt Funeral Home, Oswego, KS. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Labette Baptist Church, 565 Walnut, Oswego, KS 66356 or Gideon's International.
