Perry Lyson Obituary

Perry Dean Lyson, 79, of Midland passed away surrounded by his family after a courageous battle with Alzheimer's disease and lung cancer. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, January 29, 2014 at 3:00 p.m. at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home Chapel. Monsignor James Bridges of St. Stephen's Catholic Church will be officiating. Perry was born and raised in Parshall, North Dakota to Oscar and Veda Lyson. He graduated from Parshall High School before serving in Korea as a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne Green Barettes. Perry rode bulls in rodeos, was a golden gloves boxer, and a stock car racer before he met the love of his life and wife, Harriet, in college. He earned his degree in Education from Mayville State College in North Dakota, where he was an all-star football player. After graduating, he taught high school, coached several sports, and started his family before he began his career with the Federal Bureau of Prisons. He retired as Warden after 20 years. After retiring, Perry enjoyed golfing almost daily with his buddies in "the Day Game" at Hogan Park where he was a Golf Marshall for more than 10 years. He also enjoyed woodworking, and traveling with Harriet - especially to visit family and friends. He was a member of The American Legion, VFW and NARF. He will be greatly missed by all those who knew him. The family would like to thank Legacy Ranch Assisted Living and Hospice of Midland for their wonderful care and compassion. Perry is survived by his wife of 54 years, Harriet Lyson; daughter , Patty Green and husband, Rich, of Irving, Texas and Kathee Troiani and husband, Jim, of Rockville, Indiana; a son, Perry Lyson, II of Midland, Texas; grandchildren, Luke (Camille) Green of Joplin, Missouri, D.J. Perry was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Veda Lyson; Bruce Lyson, Junior Lyson, Harlan Lyson, Olivia Werlinger, Virginia Edwards, Nita Kay Jager, and an infant brother, Russell Lyson. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Helping Hands of Midland, (432-528-6265), the Alheimer's Association (4400 N Big Spring St C32, Midland, Texas 79705, 432-570-9191), or to a charity of your choosing. Enjoyed being around Perry at the golf course, had to watch the flight of the golf ball for him. Claimed he couldn't see it.!!!!!!!!!!! Wasn't because of distance!!!!! God bless the family during this time.

Perry and I grew up together in Parshall, ND. We were good friends throughout the years. We entered the Armed Forces at the same time. Our lives went in different directions in later years. My sympathy to you Harriet and your family.
