Sammy Mancha, 60, went home to be with his Lord and Savior and his beloved mother, Guadalupe Mancha Gutierrez, on Monday, March 23, 2015, while surrounded by his loving family and friends. A prayer service will be tonight at 6:00 p.m., followed by a rosary at 7:00 p.m. both at Lewallen-Garcia-Pipkin Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral mass is set for Friday, March 27, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church with Father Swamy Lakkineni officiating. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery. Pallbearers for the service will be Sammy Gomez, Isaiah Mancha, Moses Gutierrez, Matthew Gutierrez, Patrick Morales, Anthony Gutierrez, and Andy Gutierrez. Honorary pallbearers are Michael Mancha, Michael Gomez, Sarah Gutierrez, Alazette Martinez, and Alyssa Gutierrez. Sammy was born in Midland, Texas on January 9, 1955 to Guadalupe Mancha Gutierrez and Quirino L. Reyes. Sammy was raised and educated in Dallas, Texas and Midland, Texas. Sammy served in the United States Army and was stationed at Fort Bliss in El Paso, Texas from October of 1973 and received an honorable discharge on October 17, 1979, attending the rank of SP-4 and received a National Defense Service Metal. Sammy was a beloved son, brother, and friend to many. He was full of life and loved his family. There wasn't a person he met that he did not befriend. Sammy was a source of wisdom and strength to his family. He was generous and giving and loved the idea of serving others. He loved his oldies, Tejano music and especially the old guys like Sunny Ozuna and Little Joe. And if truth be told, he liked his beer and also enjoyed playing pool. He was a carpet layer by trade and an all-around handy man. Most of all, Sammy was a courageous fighter having survived a bought with cancer. Sammy was a Catholic and a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Sammy is preceded in death by his mother, Guadalupe Mancha Gutierrez; grandparents, Miguel and Juliana Jaure; three nephews, Rick Gomez, Steven Ray Mancha, and Danny Martinez; and numerous uncles and cousins. He is survived by his sisters, Juanita (Janie) and husband Enrique Garza, and Mary Jessie and husband Agustin Hernandez of Bismarck, North Dakota; his brothers, David and wife Linda Gomez of Odessa, Texas, Raymundo and wife Leticia Mancha, Martin and wife Corina Gutierrez, Mariano and wife Patty Gutierrez, all of Midland; and his father, Quirino L. Reyes of Midland. We would like to express our gratitude to Midland Memorial Hospital and its entire staff, especially his Respiratory therapist, Christina Portillo and Nurse Victor Miramontes, and also Hospice of Midland for caring for our beloved brother. Funeral service is under the direction of Lewallen-Garcia-Pipkin Funeral Home and Chapel.
