Gene was a grand Scrabble player and had games at his home on Okemos. I was part of that group & very sad to hear of his passing. Gene was a very kind, cheery gentleman who talked & cared about his family. Prayers for Gene & his family.

Words cannot adequately express the loss I feel with Gene's passing. He was my colleague and I was privileged to be in his circle of friends. Gene was one of Claude's "Boys" in the University of Michigan's Comparative Education Doctoral Program. Professor Claude Eggertsen was our mentor. There were five of us that passed our Qualifying Exam together and we became close. During our academic careers we parted, but kept in contact. After retirement we would often meet in Ann Arbor and relive our youth and tell the same old stories.
I will always remember Gene's cool demeanor, quiet sense of humor, with a broad smile, and the richness of his life's experiences. He was such a good friend and a pleasure to be around. I will have a special place in my heart to remember him.

It was a shock to hear of Gene's passing.
The picture in the Photo Gallery was of our Doctoral Fellows at UofM in Homecoming. L to R George Urch, myself,Gene, and Harvey Jahn. We've lost both Gene and Harvey. Room 4124 was where we did our final work with Prof. Claude Eggertsen. I now live in Port Huron and Gene and I would meet for lunch sometimes at the Big Boy on the east side of Flint to split the drive. On one memorable occasion my neighbor, Marv Kirchoff and I drove over to help Gene install the deck on his house on Elmwood Dr. Gene finished the job later. The four of us were also know as the "Blue Brothers World Council". That tag wag was from Harvey Jahn[West Point Class,1958]. I should add that Gene was also at Michael Moore's wedding and we even ran into him and his wife one time at Big Boy--small world. Gene lives on with his contributions to education, the U of M Notes & Abstracts publications and now joins Harvey in continuing to call "GO BLUE"!!! They'll need their help!

We were in a dinner club with Gene for several years about 20 years ago...when Taylor was born. We enjoyed his company and his zest for life. We were sorry when they moved away and we lost touch. May you have peace in knowing that he had friends everywhere and is missed.

Joel, Renee & Taylor, I am sure you will miss your dad. I know we all will. I know you had to cross many bridges in taking care of him over the last year or so. Will always remember the good times that we spent either at your house in our younger years, or just giving him a hand in his remodeling projects. I am glad we got to see him in June. Rob & I will miss him too. Love ya's! Your Cousin

May Gene's family and friends find healing and peace, remember times of laughter, and know that our family will keep you in our thoughts in the days ahead.
