Always missing the wonderful times we spent together, and the serious and funny talks we had. You were the best mom and friend. There are so many times, too numerous to count that I wish we could have just one more conversation. Continue to rest in peace, dear lady. I love you! Joelyn

I will never forget Velma! I had her for a 5th grade teacher at Newaygo and always had the respect of all of her students. Then when I married in 1968, who was our neighbor but Velma Matson. I could never bring myself to call her "Velma", she was always Mrs. Matson to me! A great lady! Patti (Croft) Linderer, Newaygo

Hard to believe it's been a year! I always had such a high respect for her. She was always Mrs. Matson to me after having her as a 6th grade teacher. I had a very difficult time calling her Velma when I was a married adult living next to this dear lady! I know she is missed! Patti Croft Linderer

Velma was a very special lady and a very special part of our Church Family. She was so missed when she moved away. She was truly a legacy here in Newaygo. Many had her for a teacher or attended the school name after her. My prayers to all of her family as hey will mourn her loss and as they celebrate her long and beautiful life. We will celebrate with you on Friday at NCUCC. Blessings to all.

I didn't have Velma for a teacher, but I always wished I had. She was a great person and loved by many.

She was an outstanding 6th grade teacher. I recall that she frequently emphasized how important it was to act in a MATURE way. She prepared us, as well as anyone could, for the move upstairs to Junior High. Many lingering memories of our penmanship exercises, with fountain pens (at least we had ink cartridges in 1956!) What an amazing life she had! Hugs to you, Joellen.

What a wonderful example to emulate. I still see her walking with her Knitted hat. Wish there were more people like her in this world. Condolences to the family but know she touched so many lives and we were all better for knowing her.
