Richard A. Haggerty

Richard A. Haggerty, 72, a longtime North Myrtle Beach resident and past commander of the American Legion Post 186 in Little River, passed away Friday at the home of his daughter in Florida. He had battled melanoma cancer for many months.
Mr. Haggerty was born in Troy, N.Y., son of the late Thomas and Dorothy Haggerty. A talented high school athlete, he served in the U.S. Air Force and worked for many years at the Washington Gas Company in Springfield, Virginia, retiring as the company store manager. After moving to the Grand Strand, he worked for a time at Myrtle Beach Golf Holidays.
Mr. Haggerty's devotion to serving fellow veterans spanned many years. He was a regular participant and organizer of veterans' memorials and POW/MIA services and events, and was a member of the Rolling Thunder veterans support group.
Mr. Haggerty is survived by his daughter, Dorie Robison of Ormond Beach., Florida; a brother, Harry Haggerty of North Myrtle Beach, a sister, Dorothy Grant of Houston, Texas, and his granddaughter, Caitlin Robison of Ormond Beach, Florida. He was predeceased by a brother, Thomas Haggerty.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, April 16 at Our Lady Star of the Sea Church in North Myrtle Beach.

I will remember Dick Haggerty with such fondness. We worked together at WG - Springfield. He was an extremely nice human being.

DICK was a great guy with a big heart for everyone especially vets. He always had a big smile on his face, which is what I'll keep in my heart to remember him ! RIP big guy ! Love ya !

Dear Haggerty Family,
Dick was involved with the Post, Rolling Thunder and the Veterans Welcome Home and Resource Center. He was always at the Post when he was an officer and helped where he could. My sympathies on your loss.

Dear Dorie,Bill & Caitlin, Harry & Dorothy ~
We ALL loved Dick ~ he touched my Life many years ago, and continued to bring Joy & Good Feelings to me, & EVERYONE he met! His work for "Mother Gas" was with pleasure, especially the activities he was part of - Service, The Ballfield,WGEA. He will of course be missed by many!
